I watched as the two men across the table slurped on their spicy noodles. Park Special Dinner. Even though I was the one sitting idle— having had my dinner at the restaurant itself— my nose was stuffy, my eyes bloodshot.
It pained remembering that wide grin of Wu Jaehyun as he swung his arm around the girl, who instinctively wrapped her arms around his torso, giggling to something he whispered into her ear. It had to be Taehee.
"Areum," Sunghoon broke the silence as we made an eye contact. He gulped as he ran his finger in small circles on the marble top, "Do you have any idea who that girl could be? It can be his sister too—"
"If she was his sister, he wouldn't hide it from me and meet her behind my back, Sunghoon." I snapped, not having the intention to sound rude and irritated, but he seemed to understand my situation and nodded softly.
There was no reason for Jaehyun to hide his sister from me. I knew everyone from his family, having dated him for almost 2 years, but never had I seen or heard about the girl, who apparently was Taehee.
He fell silent after that, side-glancing his brother every once in a while. A wave of guilt for snapping at the man, who had done nothing but helped me from the start, washed over me.
Noticing the fact that I wasn't opening too much about Jaehyun's matter in his presence, Jay stood up as he threw the ramen cup in the trash bin near the counter. He looked at me with a small, tooth-less smile, "Nighty night, Areum." He wished before whisking himself out.
I smiled back as I saw his silhouette disappear into the hallway. The moment I knew there wasn't a third ear, I decided to speak up. "What did Jaehyun say the day you met him at the bar?"
A favour I had asked for, I had asked Sunghoon to check-up on Jaehyun and try and get some answers about where he goes. Since Jaehyun was clearly lying to me about meeting up with Sunghoon, he would have slipped his whereabouts to his best friend.
Sunghoon was a little aback at my sudden change in demeanour, before he looked down in dismay, "He just said he spends time with you." He uttered. His eyelids drooped at my sight of eyes watering, "He didn't mention anyone named Taehee."
He kept changing his alibi. He didn't confide a detail within anyone, lying to everyone who asked about his whereabouts. There was a reason they said promises were the sweetest lies, and lies were the most bitter promises.
It hurt him. It hurt Sunghoon to watch her cry over someone else, like a thousands knives drove through his heart on loop. He couldn't keep himself together and just sit there and watch the girl weep. He walked over the counter, sitting beside her.
His mind ran through possible scenarios about what would happen if he wrapped his arm around her, all of the scenes ending up with her kicking his balls. He slightly winced at that painful imagination. Sunghoon gulped before gingerly passing a tissue box towards her.
It was embarrassing for me to cry in front of him, but he didn't seem to mind and I was too overwhelmed to control myself. I outstretched my hand, grabbing a few of the printed blue tissues and running them tenderly over my skin.
A warm feeling pooled inside me as Sunghoon ran his large hand in soothing circles on my back.
"I have a plan, Areum." Sunghoon spoke up as I looked at him. Something inside him snapped as he looked at my bloated, red eyes. He closed his eyes momentarily, keeping his arms in check before he continued, "This should prove if Jaehyun really is cheating on you or not."

I slid myself beneath the warm duvet on the comfortable bed, which creaked slightly as I bounced onto it. Sunghoon smiled as he closed the windows, pulling down the blinds as I adjusted myself beneath the covers.
It felt extremely comfortable, but weird since I was wearing Sunghoon's shirt. I didn't mind as long as I got a good night sleep.
"If you need anything," Sunghoon said as he placed a glass of water on the side-table, "Feel free to wake me up." He said as he watched me move the duvet over myself, my head popping out to stare at him. He chuckled as I nodded.
"Goodnight, Areum." He muttered softly before turning off the lights and closing the door to his room behind him.
As a person who had interacted with him only as the girlfriend of his best friend before this, Sunghoon was just too kind to take care of me like his very own.
It was too good to be true. Guess this is what they called angels, who helped you at your worst without a spec of selfishness.
"Good night, Sunghoon." I whispered into the darkness.
