Hi! Sorry it took so long to update! I am about to explode, thank you SO much for the 206 reads, and #3 in wof. I cannot believe it. But I'm just going on so I'll get to the story.
Glory sat looking at the rising sun, tail wrapped around her talons. Breathing in the fresh morning air, the wind cool on her scales. She was waiting. It was going to happen any day now, and then they'd have to tell Sunburst. That is what Glory was dreading. But she wanted to enjoy her freedom while she had it, before it all drifted away. And when it did, it would be gone for a while.
Sunburst was walking with Starling, talking about Jade Mountain Academy. "I'm so excited to go!" Starling nodded, adjusting her glasses. (I know I didn't mention that Starling had glasses in the former chapter, but just pretend I did, 'kay?) Sunburst skipped along the path, heading towards Starling's house. Sunburst had only been once, but Starflight and Fatespeaker loved having her, and Sunburst knew that Starflight and her mother grew up together. Starling looked at her. "What are ya thinking about?" She asked, nudging Sunburst with a wing. Sunburst edged away. "Nothing." Starling grinned. "Uh-huh. So you're not thinking about how your mom is going to have another dragonet?" Sunburst's jaw dropped. "What?!" Starling blinked. "You didn't know?! I thought you did, I mean, Glory told my parents, so I figured she told you!" Sunburst glared at her friend. Starling looked down, obviously upset, and Sunburt's gaze softened. She sighed. "It's not your fault. I shouldn't be taking my anger out on you, and I'm sorry. But I have to go have a very lengthy conversation with my mother." Starling sniffled and nodded, pushing up her glasses to wipe her wet eyes. Why is she so fragile? Sunburst thought, then shook the thought out of her head. "See you later, Star." She called as she lifted into the sky. Starling waved, saying something that Sunburst couldn't hear. She figured it was another apology. But she didn't want to think about that right now. Her top priority was not making her friend feel better, it was making sure her mother knew that it was not okay to keep secrets.
Glory was licking the remnants of a mango from her talons when a very angry Sunburst marched into the hut. Glory stared at her daughter, who was no longer a swirl of pink, orange, yellow, and black, but pure, bright red. Except for a small patch on her neck that was a blue that meant sadness. Glory panicked, fighting to keep her scales neutral. She knows. How did she find out? Sunburst sat down with a flare of her wings before addressing Glory. "What?" Glory asked, nervous. Sunburst growled. "Don't play dumb, Mom. I know you know what I want to talk about." Glory hung her head. "Burst, I'm sorry. I was going to tell you-" Sunburst cut her off. "Sorry? Mom, how could you keep a secret like that from me? I'm your daughter! And it affects me too! You're not the only one that it'll be different for! Did you tell Dad? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't." Glory tried to speak, but Sunburst was on a roll. "And also, you told Starflight and Fatespeaker? Before your own daughter?" Suddenly Glory let out a groan. Sunburst's scales shifted immediately, changing to white-cream. She's scared for me. Glory thought, and another stab of pain slammed through her. Sunburst's ruff flattened in fear. "It's the dragonet, isn't it?"She whispered, and Glory looked at her. "I'll go get Dad. And Mayfly." Sunburst said, preparing to take off. Glory pulled her back. "I love you, you know. And I always will." Sunburst gripped her mothers talon. "I know. And I love you too." Then Sunburst flew off to get Mayfly. When she arrived at the healers hut, Mayfly was already packing up supplies. "How did you know?" Sunburst panted, catching her breath. Mayfly smiled. "I could see you coming from a mile away. Go tell your father, and I'll tend to the Queen." Mayfly took off into the sky. Sunburst scanned the forest, but she couldn't see Dad anywhere. Flying to the old hut, Sunburst found him inside. He looked up. "Hey, Bug." He said. "What's up?" Sunburst tugged him into the air. "Mom's having her dragonet." Dad looked confused. "How did you find out?" Sunburst rolled her eyes. "Doesn't matter. I'm gonna be a big sister!"
Hey! So I personally think that this chapter turned out really well. Sunburst is getting a little sis/bro! I haven't decided if I should make the dragonet a girl or boy, comment what you think. I'll update soon! Also, I wanna come up with a name to call my readers, so feel free to give suggestions! Later!
