Sunburst sat near her egg, watching it closely. She didn't plan on letting anything happen to this little dragonet, so she had stayed near it for two months. Maybe another dragonet wasn't the best idea when you're queen of the Rainwings, but oh well. Sunburst laid her head down on her talons, wrapping her tail around the shining black egg. Closing her eyes, she drifted to sleep without even knowing it. When she opened them again, she noticed something different about the egg. It had cracked open and had fallen onto one side. Sunburst jumped up and raced over, inspecting the egg. It must have hatched while I was asleep. Sunburst thought, looking around the platform. A small black shape was sitting by where she had been sleeping. Scooping up the dragonet, she sniffed her all over. After she was sure the dragonet wasn't hurt, she looked closely at her black scales. She had silver scales scattered across her body, and the undersides of her wings were a fiery orange/red. Sunburst smiled at her new daughter. "Hello Eclipse." She said, using the name she'd picked out. Eclipse sneezed. Sunburst sighed. "Don't inherit Passion's allergies." She said, kissing her dragonets head. A voice came from behind her. Sunburst turned, setting Eclipse down. Seafoam stood looking happy behind her. "What?" Sunburst asked, frowning. Seafoam smiled. "Dragonet." He said. Sunburst grinned, pulling Eclipse towards her and nudging her towards her father. "Go on." She said, pushing her gently with her nose. "Eclipse. He won't hurt you." Seafoam beamed. "Eclipse?" He asked, and Sunburst nodded. Eclipse decided that hearing her name was good enough, then skipped towards him and sprang into the air. Sunburst lurched forward, planning to catch her. But she didn't fall. Born flyer. Sunburst thought proudly. Eclipse fluttered gently towards her father, landing on his back with a snort. Sunburst laughed, Seafoam grinned, and Sea Star jumped out from the bushes and screamed, "ECLIPSE!" Excitedly. Sunburst shushed her, and Sea Star smiled. "Eclipse!" She whispered. Eclipse had fallen asleep on Seafoam's back. Sunburst walked with him as he carried her inside, and Sea Star followed softly. They laid Eclipse down, and she stretched and yawned. Sunburst did the same. Curling up beside her dragonet, she fell asleep with the little red and black lump beside her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Eclipse knew she was different. She knew that she had an odd look to her, she knew she was way too young to fly so well, and she knew that she shouldn't be able to think like this when she had just hatched. But she did. And she couldn't do anything about it. At least she hadn't inherited her father's animus powers like her sister had. She felt like that would be much harder than being uncannily smart for her age, and a strange color, plus a princess. Sea Star was a princess too, and most of the Rainwings weren't happy that they were getting a Seawing/Nightwing/Rainwing hybrid for a queen. Eclipse liked the way Sea Star resembled a Seawing but had the qualities of a Rainwing. It was so much fun to tease people.
Hi guys! SO I know this isn't the best chapter and I'm super sorry about that and that it took me so long to update. I've been busy. But here we are! Eclipse, the super smart for Nightwing than anything dragonet who is a natural born flyer. Have fun with her. Stay flappy!
