Imagine the look of triumph and grin of satisfaction as I completed this piece of poetry inspired from the song which tells the point of view of the all-knowing "Betty" from the "Teenage Love Triangle".

This poem is not actually the first piece I have written inspired by this song, "Cardigan". I had written the poem, "Stars Around My Scars" (which I included on my previous poetry compilation, Poetryverse as it seems to be fitting to be included because it aligned with the aesthetics).

So in the inspiration of the song, "Cardigan", I have written another piece which also entitled out of another line stuck in my head and that is, "I KNEW YOU". It's just a three-word-statement but it holds the power of being all-knowing and at the same time, knowing someone whom you've learned to love even though in its darker shade and it speaks well for Betty, because all in all, despite everything that had happened, the bottom line is, she knew James – and she knew him and everything that came between even when they were young and people thought and assume she knew nothing.

Some people know everything and are aware of everything when it comes to people that they love and other people would still think they are fool or naïve for still choosing to love that person even with all the shortcomings and flaws. Sometimes yes, they choose to be naïve, they choose to be fools for the person that they love but most times, it takes a brave and genuine heart to still learn, grow, and unconditionally love a person even in his/her darkest times to get through everything. Why? Because they know and see something in the person that they love which those other people just don't and with Betty & James' story, Betty knew everything and understood everything that most people don't even in her youth.
