I walked down the long hallway, the sounds of screams echoing around me. There was blood on the metal walls. I turned the corner. Bodies were on the ground. They were wearing black armor, like security guards. Their bodies were covered in blood. I looked at the walls. They were splattered with blood. But something was different. There were claw marks. I heard a noise behind me. I turned around. It was a man. His body was covered in blood and had a crazed look in his eyes. His hair was wild and he was breathing heavily. I looked at his hands. It was like metal claws coming out from between his fingers. They were covered in blood. He started walking towards me. But I just stood there. He was coming faster and faster. He had his claws pointing at me. He started sprinting. When he was about a foot away from me, I covered my hands over my head to protect myself......
"Serene!" someone said. I sat up in bed, a cold sweat running down my back. I was shaking from head to toe. I looked to my side. Charles was sitting in his wheelchair with a concerned look on his face. I put my head in my hands.
"Sorry," I muttered. "I did it again, didn't I?" When he didn't answer I looked up. My room was a mess. Books, school papers, clothes, and other things were scattered around the room. I reached over to my nightstand and hurriedly grabbed a mirror. My eyes were the blood red again. I calmed my breathing and they slowly faded into a dark hazel color. I set the mirror to the side.
"Sorry," I said again.
"You have nothing to apologize for." Charles said.
"I did it again though." I said. Charles sighed.
"What did you see?" He asked. I closed my eyes and thought for a moment.
"Metal walls," I said. "Blood and bodies."
"The usual?" He asked. I nodded, but then quickly shook my head.
"There was someone else." I said. "He was a mutant, I think." Charles looked at me with interest.
"Can you describe him?" He asked.
"He um, he had metal claws." I said, trying to remember every detail.
"What else?" He asked again.
"I think he was the one who killed the guards." I said.
"Guards?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said. "Like, maybe for some sort of laboratory." Charles sighed.
"Is that all?" He asked. I nodded, then laid back in bed. I closed my eyes.
"Charles?" I asked.
"Yes?" He said.
"Did you ever hear voices at night that weren't voices of the living?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"Voices of the dead." I said, opening my eyes and looking at him. He shook his head.
"No." He sighed.
"Oh," I said looking back up at the ceiling. I felt Charles gently touch my hand.
"Get some sleep." He said. "It's almost 3 am, and you have classes later." I nodded and slowly closed my eyes.

" ..'To break forth bloodily, then the past must be obliterated and a new start made." As Charles continued reading, I barely paid attention. I was thinking about the dream. Who was that man? Where was the place? What was it? My thoughts were broken when I heard footsteps down the hall. I smiled when I saw who it was.
"Now, what on earth do we think that the author meant when he wrote all that?..." Charles stopped talking when he saw them too. Other students were raising their hands around the room.
"That's going to be your assignment for tomorrow." He said as Hank McCoy led Alex Summers and someone else. The other kid had a bandage wrapped around his eyes. "Top marks, everyone. Class dismissed." Everyone grabbed their things and started heading out, but I stayed behind.
"Alex!" I exclaimed happily when I saw him. I rushed forward and hugged him tightly. Alex laughed as he hugged me.
"Ghost," He said happily. We pulled away. "How are you?" He asked.
"Good," I answered. "How about you?"
"Not so bad." He said.
"Alex," Charles said. "It's good to see you." They shook hands and hugged.
"Ah, you too." Alex said.
"You look well. It's been awhile." Charles said.
"It has." Alex said. "Not too bad yourself." I turned my attention away from their conversation to the boy with the bandages. It looked a few years older than me, 16 or 17.
"Who's that?" I asked Alex. He smiled. He went over and put his hand on the boy's shoulder.
"This is my brother, Scott." He said.
"Hello, Scott." Charles said. "Welcome to the School for the Gifted."
"Yeah." Scott scoffed. "It doesn't exactly feel like a gift."
"It never does at first." Charles said.
---------------------------------------------
"The first step in understanding one's power is learning the extent of it. Only then can we begin the process of teaching you how to control it." Charles explained as we walked along the path outside towards the lake.
"With the exception of me," I said laughing. "I've been here for about four years ago, and we still don't know what I can do." Charles laughed.
"Yes, well Serene, you are a challenge. You always have been." Hank said.
"Serene?" Scott asked. "I thought your name was Ghost?"
"Serene is her real name, Ghost is her nickname." Alex laughed.
"Why is her nickname Ghost though?" Scott asked.
"If you decide to stay, I can promise you that by the time you're done here, you'll be able to go back into the world and play a stable and productive part in it." Charles said ignoring our side comments.
"Why don't you take your bandages off and we can have a look at what we're dealing with here?" Charles continued.
"Alex, would you line him up?" I said to Alex.
"Face him in the right direction, as it were." Charles said. "There's a target just across the water. When you open your eyes, try and hit that." Alex placed his hands on Scott's shoulders and lined him up. He took off his bandages. Scott's eyes were squeezed tightly shut.
"You can open your eyes, Scott." I said. "There's nothing to be afraid of. It's quite..." My words were cut off by a beam of red light shooting out of Scott's eyes. Laser eyes. Awesome. The beams cut through the water, the land, the target, then cut through a tree. I heard other kids screaming. I looked at Charles as he slowly looked back up. Charles laughed when he saw the tree.
"My grandfather planted that tree when he was five years old. I used to swing from the branches of it, myself. " Charles said. As he finished speaking, the tree fell down, cut in half. I tried not to laugh but failed.
"Charles, I think that was your favorite tree." I said through giggles.
"I think it was." He said.
"Does that mean I'm expelled?" Scott asked as he put the bandage back on.
"Oh, on the contrary. You're enrolled." Charles said.
