Little Xi meditated for a few minutes rest. After which he brought out his wand and murmured a few chants around the room that would alert him if anyone came near and so that no one is able to snoop at him. He also cast a sound barrier for good measure in case one of his experiments blew on his face. These were some of the few minor enchantments he specifically practiced just for this moment.
He then sat down on his bed and read the lotus heart sutra. It is a meditation sutra that helps atone the body with elemental particles transforming them into life energy making it easier for cultivators to perform techniques and magic.
The copy he was given was only up to the third level. In the introduction there is actually nine levels. The first three allows one to gain mastery in Qi circulating level, which allows the cultivator to transform elemental energy into life energy and circulate it inside the body. The fourth to sixth levels allow one to master the Qi storing level, where one can store an increased amount of life energy inside the body. And the seventh to ninth level allow one to master the Qi condensing level, where the life energy inside the body is condensed into a Qi core.
The idea of life energy and storing them in the body is suchh a fascinating concept to Little Xi. In his memories magic is directing the elemental energies with the help of diagrams, formations, and spells. He never would have thought of using the body as the main conductor of magic by transforming elemental energy into something else. No wonder the soul is such an important part of cultivation, he surmised.
After reading the whole book he sat in a meditative position and tried out the sutra. He easily controlled the elemental energy around him. What was different from his previous use of energies when performing magic was that he needed to tranform the elemental energy into life energy before allowing it to circulate within him tempering and strengthening every part of his body. After each circulation he felt that his body was getting stronger.
Interesting. His eyes gleaming with anticipation. This actually allows cultivators to temper their bodies to increase their proficiency in magic as opposed to the information in his memory where one who practices magic become stronger by learning increasingly complicated spell diagrams and increasing their mental prowess. Tempering the body as well could actually be more beneficial he thought. That is why the higher the level of their cultivation the less they need nourishment.
He finally gained understanding on different aspects of cultivation, the key of which is life energy or Qi. Especially when he recalled the nine pillars he saw on the test and the words uttered by the ancient voice. However he still needed to read the other levels of the sutra so as to solidify his foundation.
Tempering the body would take awhile, so even if his control over elemental energy can be described as monstrous that if anyone saw him perform magic they would probably think he is way above the energy circulating level, he still needed to cultivate step by step.
If he can strengthen his body this would actually allow him to use some of his more powerful spells ahead of time without worrying of any injury. With his monstrous control over elemental energy however he would be able to convert them into life energy faster than anyone else in his class, and probably even faster than those in the advanced class.
He was so engrossed in cultivating the sutra that by the time he finished, it was already nearing dawn. He also noticed the foul smell coming out of his body and the black liquid that stuck on his robes like sweat. He read in the book that as a result of breaking through the body would get rid of impurities. He took out his wand and muttered a cleaning incantation which removed all the dirt from his body and stood up.
He felt stronger and cleaner. He smiled and tried another spell and observed for any difference. It felt like his body has gotten more adjusted with the flow of energy.
