It was there he saw more people, who seem to be aged below thirty, the youngest of which looked like a teenager. They wore similiar white robes with an embroidered five petal lotus. Most of them wore stoic expressions like the world around them was negligible. Aside from their aloof air, they also possess an aura that sets them apart from the people around them. Seeing their demeanor little Xi's eyes gleamed.
When the man in blue entered, the people in white bowed and greeted him as elder.
He also noticed some of the nobles of the town standing near the patriarch and even the town lord and people from his house.
The town lord was a minor noble appointed by the provincial lord. He had been ruling this town for two decades and has built a good relationship with all the local powers. The Moshu clan is said to be the richest clan in town next only to the town lord. For the important task of welcoming these guest it seems that the town lord owed the Moshu patriarch a great deal.
It has to be understood that people from sects are special and had more power compared to the local nobles. Even the provincial lord would have to give them face as the emperor values each sect located within the empire with great importance. Hence if not for the town lord owing the patriarch a lot, how would the town lord even consider allowing another house to accommodate the people from the sect which can be considered a great honor and give them a great deal of face.
After all were seated the servants began serving refreshments as the nobles chatted with each other anticipating on why the divine lotus sect visited them. Aside from the town lord and the patriarchs of select clans, no one really knows why.
The town lord then stood up and addressed the crowd.
Our little town of Hai welcomes our special guests for today the honorable masters of the Divine lotus sect. We hope that our few arrangements are able to satisfy you. He said with a gratifying voice.
The man in blue waved his hand and nodded. Lord Cing is quite modest. These refreshments are quite good. However we have come here today for a more important task other than food and drinks.
The hall suddenly became quite as the people tried to concentrate on what the man is saying.
Seeing their reaction the man in blue continued with a smile. We of the divine lotus sect has not held a recruitment of new disciples for a decade. However the elders have decided it was time for us to gain new talents and be able to train, cultivate, and teach a new generation of disciples.
The sect master has given me the task to travel the different towns and cities to announce this news to the public. We will be conducting a preliminary test tomorrow. Anyone who passes the preliminary test will be given an invitation to visit the sect for the final test which will be held three months from now. The only qualification would be that the test taker is below twenty years of age. He finished before sitting down.
Hearing this the crowd became a buzz. To become a disciple of a sect is truly a good fortune. Their family will not only receive a great deal of face. But also resources, connections, influence, and power.
It had been a decade indeed since they last opened for recruitment. However their criteria is usually very strict only allowing a few to enter successfully.
It was believed that before when the Moshu clan was only small and insignificant, they were able to send a member to become a disciple. And since then they were able to prosper becoming the most influential clan in their town second only to the town lords clan. And this was more than fifty years ago. No one knew what had happened since then but the obvious growth of the Moshu clan was still present hence all the clan heads became excited.
Little Xi looked at the Moshu patriarch and his lack of reaction made him think that he already knew this before hand. He also noticed the face of the town lord slightly change before regaining his smile.
The Moshu patriarch is surely planning something and it involves making sure one of the clan members is able to pass the test. He also wondered if the clan ancestor who entered the Divine lotus sect seventy years ago is still alive. While reading little Xi encountered only a bit of information regarding this. That ancestor was already twenty when he was accepted. He was named Moshu Shen and was a part of the main family line. After he was accepted no further information was revealed. It seems the sect is really strict regarding any information about them.
If he had even a bit of talent for magic he would probably still be alive and should have been the one to send the information. As magic is essentially manipulation of energies which can nourish the body, a magic practitioner naturally has a longer life span compared to normal people.
Little Xi pondered whether he would try out the test. On one hand joining the sect would make his study of magic easier. But on the other hand it would also restrict him. As sects would surely have lots of rules. And he planned to experiment on the information about magic in his mind, and his actions would surely attract attention if he was not careful.
So it would have been more ideal if he was left to his own devices along with plenty resources and information regarding magic. But reality is that he could barely get his hands on any resources not to mention information regarding magic.
So unless he stumbles on a cave full of magical items and scroll, his only option would be to join the sect but he would have to be very very careful.
