M.I. Ch24
The three kids let Yifan explain what happened, how they were attacked by a flame boar making them discover a patch of spirit herbs. He also told them that after that, they also found a patch of mirrorstar grass which made the listening servants gasp in surprise.
Then he related how they became lost because of that and that they tried ti follow the river back to the sect. Unfortunately they went the wrong direction and headed deeper into the mountains where they saw the lake full of gathering beasts lead by the emerald bull serpent
Hearing this everyone in the room became serious. This is a serious matter, Elder Wang said. If what you said is true then the sect needs to make preparations. But how did you escape?
It was brother Xi! Yifan said. He immediately cast an illusion spell and an agility spell on all three of us letting us easily throw off the pursuing beasts. They didn't mention that he also taught them the spells afraid that little Xi would get into trouble.
One of Elder Wangs eyebrows lifted as he looked at the unfamiliar looking boy.
If I'm not wrong you are not born in the sect, and on your first week here you already know quite a few tricks. She plainly stated.
It was all thanks to my master Long Qian. She is an incredible and talented teacher. He said sticking to his excuse.
I did hear that she accepted two disciples from the beginners class, someone from the Tang clan and another one, the inner court disciples have been talking about it the past few days. I can see that she had quite a keen eye to have seen a good seed as young as you. She nodded.
I must report this spirit beast matter to the sect master for further investigation. You three need to rest. You can exchange your harvest later after you have rested. I don't want you getting in anymore trouble. She said patting Yifans shoulder and looking at him softly. She then left immediately.
The three finally relaxed as Yifan toured them around the manor. After a few more minutes passed someone called out.
Young master, the food has been prepared a servant stated and lead them towards the dining hall. There they found Ming Ran's dad who just arrived and was led there by another servant.
He was a tall man that radiated a natural noble aura and looked similar to Ming Ran.
Dad! Ming Ran exclaimed running to him.
You little rascal! he said with a stern voice but his eyes betrayed his worry.
Ming Ran then stood in front of his dad and bowed. Seeing his son like this, the man finally smiled and patted his head.
You have been through a lot I see. His dad said. I heard from elder Wang what happened. But it doesn't concern you now. All you need to do is rest! he finished.
Okay children come, come, Yifans dad said prompting the group to sit down. True to his word he prepared an extravagant feast for them and everyone ate to their fill.
After which Yifan's dad told a servant to help the children clean up and rest.
They will return to the beginners hall first thing tomorrow morning, he ordered.
After the kids left the two men became serious. I heard from sister Wang about the beast horde. Mr. Ming said.
Mr. Wang nodded. It truly is miraculous that the three kids were able to escape unscathed, but the bigger problem now is if that beast horde will attack.
Mr. Ming said the clans would have to send reinforcements just incase.
Mr. Wang then suddenly asked, do you think there is some bigger picture we are not seeing about this incident?
Mr. Ming can only think deeply because if it did, then not only the sect but the empire might be in danger.
Your dad was really a good cook. Little Xi said as they finished cleaning up and they were given fresh clothes.
Yup. Don't worry brother Xi, your cooking is a close second, Yifan said with a thumbs up.
This was probably why Yifan became fat, as his father very much doted on him, thought little Xi.
The three were given three separate rooms but were all gathered in Yifan's.
What do you think the sect will do? Little Xi asked.
The sect have strong people hidden within it. So even if the beast horde did attack defending the sect wouldn't be a problem, Ming Ran stated.
Yep, Yifan agreed. Not only is the sect master above level nine, there are also the sect ancestors who have been in secluded meditation for decades maybe centuries.
Hearing this, little Xi was astonished.
There are levels above level nine? He asked.
Oh right! you're from outside, Yifan remembered. Ming Ran knows more about this he can better explain them to you.
Ming Ran then said,
The lotus heart sutra of the formations peak, the bright flame sutra of the artifice peak, and the verdant life sutra of the medicine mountain are only given to the disciples up to nine levels. They will allow us to reach the peak of qi condensing stage at most. There is actually more above this level.Once a disciple reaches the peak of level nine my mom taught me that this signifies that they have solidified their foundation. The next thing they need to do is forge their own meridians. If they are able to forge two meridians they are eligible to become a sect elder. The more meridians a cultivator can make then the stronger that cultivator will be.
She said that these meridians will help you in your path of cultivation. Legends also say that above the meridian forging stage there is still a far more powerful stage!
This information caused little Xi to finally understand a little about the pillar carvings he saw. Build the foundation, forge the meridians and find a path. In his memory, magic practitioners have simpler levels of power.
Scholars who are students learning about magic, magus who have graduated from academies, and sages, the top existence among magi.
Then how strong is the sect master? Little Xi asked.
I'm not sure but some say he is at the peak of meridians stage that is rumored to be nine meridians. Even my mother is not sure, Yifan answered.
Let's not talk about that, how many points do you think will we get for our harvest?
The three then brought out all the boxes they were carrying. And counted everything.
With only the mirrorstar grass alone we'd get around a thousand points each! Ming Ran estimated with gleaming eyes.
After counting the three divided their harvest into three parts. Yifan and Ming Ran wanted to give little Xi more as he practically saved their lives. But little Xi declined saying it was all due to luck.
I'll finally get my own artifact. Yifan rejoiced. Although these two could easily get an artifact with their background, their mothers have expressedly told them that if they want something they should work hard for them. That is why when they started in the beginners hall they were quite pitiful despite being young masters from huge clans.
What are you planning to get? Little Xi asked.
A sword of course! Answered Ming Ran. His parents were both sword weilding cultivators as well as formations masters, hence he became fascinated with them since he was young.
As for Yifan he seemed to be thinking deeply. His mother used a metal fan and his fathers weapon was actually a war hammer.
Using a fan seemed to be not fitted for him as for a hammer he thinks its very cumbersome.
I'll decide once I get there he finally said.
How about you? Since you already have an artifact the two asked little Xi to which he answered I'm not sure myself.
He actually already have a plan for his points. He needed certain items to perfect his wand combining it with the wujiao tigers core. But he didn't know if these items are available in the sect, not to mention the whole eastern realm. He would have to check the scriptures pavilion for alternatives.
