Little Xi went to his room feeling very excited.

He now had a chance to become a cultivator. But first he needed to make sure his mother and his uncle would be okay after he left. After all he wouldn't be able to come back for a long time.

After testing his elemental affinity he had been thinking about which
spell he would test out first.

After he made the illusion charm yesterday he spent the rest of the day with his mother. Now that he had time he can test out other spells.

He specially tried to recall protective charms which he can make with his limited resources.

He concocted some kind of ink by mixing spirit water and the sap of spirit grass, then adding colored powder. He guessed the elemental energy from the combined ingredients would be enough to activate an energy gathering diagram to power the protective formation. Whether it works he would have to test it first.

He recalled the simplest energy gathering diagram in his memory. As runes started to appear in his mind he began to draw them one by one.

After a few breaths the simple diagram was complete. It glowed for a moment but nothing happened. Little Xi was about to think that it was a failure when he suddenly felt energy particles converging on the diagram. As it was the simplest diagram he can recall, its effect was slow.

However little Xi's eyes shone as he deduced that the energy would be enough to power an array after a few hours.

He then proceeded to test one of the protective charms in his memory. This time the diagram didn't even glow.

Thinking for a bit, he then tested the next spell diagram in his list. He did this a few times some of them didn't work, some did. And even when he tried linking them together the formation wouldn't work.

His plan is basically creating an array composed of simple protective diagrams with varrying effects, that would join together and reinforce each other. This would ensure that the defense would be enough.

After days and weeks of working, the combination he was testing finally worked! The array was composed of five minor diagrams. One of which is the energy gathering diagram.

Three of the diagrams causes a defensive barrier to spring up when energy disturbance is detected. And finally the last one causes an illusion to cover the area making the courtyard disappear and show a ruined courtyard instead.

With these five diagrams creating an array he estimated that it can withstand a major spell for a few minutes. Which is why he added the illusion diagram, to fool the attacker into leaving.

He hoped that this would be enough before he could come back to put down a stronger enchantment.

He placed the array around his uncle's courtyard, on the servants quarters, and finally on the kitchen, afterall the smaller the area the more concentrated the energy barrier would be.

Also he didn't really care much about the Moshu clan only the servants, his mother, and his uncle who had been good to him.

When he finished the array, almost all of his resources were used. Thus he decided to save the remaining until he can enter the sect where he can study more magic and understand why some of the spells in his memory don't work.
