The caravan moved on as they were only a few days away from the capital city. The roads have become lively with chatter as more and more people joined them on the road, most of which are headed towards the city.
Yue came to play with Little Xi everyday but she hadn't brought up anything about her performing magic, so he didn't ask about it.
Instead he asked her different kinds of stuff about the capital. She had been in the capital with Moshu Tian learning under a different master before they were both called back for the test.
She obliged and told her about the sceneries and her favorite places and foods she tasted there. He acted really interested which made Yue very happy telling him about her experiences.
After just a day, the two had become fast friends playing and telling each other stories.
Although they both grew up in the clan manor, Yue had never run into little Xi. She was only allowed in the main clan members living space while he was mainly in the servants area. Little Xi had seen her a few times but had never approached the living space of the clan members aside from his uncles courtyard which was located at the very edge. He did have a lot of hiding places allowing him to move around the manor undetected.
He told him about the chores he did in the servants quarters and the books he had read, while she recounted how she was always cooped up studying art and music. When her talent was finally revealed she was very excited to go out and explore the world. And then she was sent to the capital and had been there ever since.
The masters Tian and Yue were learning under are actually supervising disciples of the divine lotus sect assigned in the lotus temple. They were instructed by the Moshu clan ancestor to teach the two the basics of cultivation. The ancestor had become an elder and had ordered for each of the Moshu clan members to be tested for magical talent so as to be recruited by the sect. Tian and Yue were the only ones with magical talent that appeared in the clan ever since the ancestor.
Moshu Tian's talent appeared late when he was sixteen while Yue showed her talent at the age of ten which made the patriarch very happy. However they had to wait for the sect to officially announce their recruitment before the two can become official disciples. Thus, the ancestor through his connections were able to make arrangements for the two to start training outside the sect. This can only be possible if the two stayed in the lotus temple in the capital.
These are actually sensitive information but Yue had deemed it safe to divulge it to Little Xi as she and Tian are already becoming official disciples in a few days. And since she thought little Xi was a servant of the Moshu clan, and her only friend, him knowing is not a problem at all.
Her trust in him made little Xi feel a bit better about the Moshu clan.
You should never tell this to anyone Yue said with a serious face.
I promise little Xi nodded.
Yue then smiled as the two continued to walk side by side. Yue came to play whenever she was bored even while the caravan was travelling. She would say she feel cramped inside the carriages and opt to walk with little Xi. Now that they are nearing the capital she felt like she would be losing a friend soon as she would be entering the sect.
Seeing her suddenly become quite little Xi asked him what she was thinking.
I'll be entering the sect soon, she said sadly.
Isn't that a good thing. He asked
Well the ancestor entered the sect when he was twenty and he has never been back to the clan ever since. Not that I know of. She said while looking afar. I'll surely miss mom and dad, and also you.
I'm sure you'll get to visit sometime. Little Xi said comforting her.
Maybe she sighed.
You'll just have to be strong enough to be allowed to go out like those disciples that came to test you, although thay would be in ten years, He suggested.
Hearing this Yue's eyes brightened as she realized this. That is true! She said jumping up.
You're really smart! at least I'd have something to look forward to, she said as she giggled regaining her former joyful self and skipping ahead.
Seeing this little Xi smiled as he followed her.
After a few hours they finally saw the city. It was surrounded by a wall and a few mountains making it look like a formidable fortress. There was a huge gate in front where the road leads and where the caravan was heading.
As they had tons of goods they had to pause for inspection. During this time the carriage which Yue, Tian, and a few elders rode broke off from the caravan. As they are not actually entering the city and will be heading towards the lotus temple.
Before heading to the carriage Yue made her final goodbye to little Xi. She even gave him the spirit stone as a remembrance thinking that as a normal kid he wouldn't know what to do with it. He didn't say no and thanked her for it.
I'll see you in ten years? she asked to which little Xi only nodded as he can't really tell her he would be seeing her sooner than she expected.
After which she ran and went inside the carriage which then continued towards the lotus mountain.
Little Xi looked at her carriage fondly. He has now gained another person he needs to protect. At least I'd have someone inside the sect, he thought thinking of how he can befriend Yue while wearing the illusion charm.
His thoughts were brought back to the present when the inspection of their caravan was finished and they were allowed to enter prompting him to look excitedly around the new world he is about to embark to.
