Fiona's plan was to go to her mom's, after stopping briefly at her house, or well now it was just Tom's house. She wondered if he'd sell it and move back home. Woody jumped at her legs, his tail wagging wildly as it hit against the wood paneling. She was sad to leave Woody with the pet sitter after he was so excited to see her, but she had to. She left her cell phone that Tom bought on the night stand. Her voicemail was already full, there were 37 unread text messages, 10 missed calls on Skype, 3 messages on twitter, and 6 unread emails from Tom. Leaving there with another suitcase taking the rest of her clothes and shoes, Woody barked the whole time making the whole situation more chaotic. Woody's howl could be heard outside as she backed out of the garage and made her way down the uneven driveway.
. . . .
Sleeping the whole day away, Fiona only left the comforts of her old bed to pee once and fill up a water bottle. With all her crying she was starting to feel dehydrated. She checked the time it was midday on a Monday, she figured the coast was clear for her to raid the cabinets.
Climbing the stairs, she heard the sound of the television rather than silence.
"What are you doing home?" Fiona said flatly. She didn't want to deal with anyone. She didn't want to answer questions or think about Tom at all.
"I knew you'd be upset, so I stayed home. I can make you breakfast, or lunch, whatever," Karen rose to her feet. Fiona shook her head.
"No I just came to grab a drink, I'm heading back to bed," she grabbed a glass from the cabinet.
"If you need to talk or something, I'm here," Fiona knew her mom was worried about what the the aftermath could be like from such an intense relationship. Right now she had Xanax on hand and that helped keep her calm. She was starting to really love the feeling of not caring.
"I'm fine," Fiona shrugged and filled her glass with apple juice. She grabbed a bottle of alcohol from the freezer, not bothering to look at what kind and headed back downstairs.
. . . . .
Hungover, she drove to work the next day. What was usually 10 minutes max, was now an hour drive. She could never afford to move to Pound Ridge on her own, she'd either have to commute or find another job. Right now she would suck it up and save money for a new apartment.
She turned on the Sirius radio in her car. Tom's car, she corrected herself. She loved her little green car but gave it to her youngest sister, she couldn't just ask for it back now. So, first priority would be a car.
The radio was mostly talking, she had found this morning show hilarious and now she had time to listen for more than one joke. Little did she know she would regret that.
"So people are still talking about Lawless and the cast at Cannes. People are shipping Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain now," the female host, Taylor, laughed loud and obnoxious.
"Ship?" Kenny asked her.
"Oh ok, so us young folk call it shipping, when you think two people should be in a relationship."
"But they are, right?" Kenny stated, more than asked.
"Nooo! They're not! That's the gossip,” Taylor shouted, sounding like she was right on the commute with Fiona. "Tom's actually engaged to, a native New Yorker, Fiona Hudson. Or that's in question at the moment."
"I couldn't imagine she would be happy with the way, what's her name, Jessica was all over him," Kenny said. Fiona appreciated that others thought the same thing and that she didn't blow it out of proportion.
