[Not my favorite chapter]
"America's Thanksgiving is next week, isn't it? Don't people usually go home to their families?” Tom stroked Fiona's hair as she sat between his legs on the bed. "Are you going to go?"
Almost every night Fiona watched some show or another. At first he didn't really care for them but as the weeks went on he found himself more and more invested.
"Uh, no I wasn't planning on it. It's a lot to fly for just a few days," she said, watching the rest of the scene before the commercials started to play. "You don't have Thanksgiving in Britain?"
"No we typically don't celebrate when our people left and moved to America. It's a sore subject," Tom said sternly. She figured out his British humor rather quickly, for the most part.
"Oh I forgot that's what Thanksgiving was about," she laughed.
"You don't want to go home?" He pressed.
"Nah, I mean I love Thanksgiving but I'm going to see them next month," she shrugged, still watching the TV.
"Leo invited me, well us, to his house for a few days. Not necessarily on Thanksgiving but that week."
Fiona jumped up to her knees and turned to face him with a huge smile. Tom tried not to laugh at her, she was genuinely excited.
"Are you serious?" She shouted at him, even though he was 6 inches away from her.
"So is that a yes?" Tom asked, using his hands to steady her.
"Yes," Fiona stared off. "I mean, it's going to be 100% awkward, but I am excited."
"Why will it be 100% awkward?" He asked.
"Because, he's a celebrity. Because I'm not. Or that he dates super models and I'm very obviously not one," her mind raced. Would everyone be in bathing suits? Who else would be there? Will I stand out?
"Let's unpack that for a minute. Why are you comparing yourself to who he dates?"
"Well because he's going to think I'm a cow. I'm not trying to date him but like he still obviously thinks a certain way about women," she bit her lip nervously. She had brought only a modest tankini bathing suit which would definitely not work.
"I don't think he dates them because of their body," Tom said. Fiona shot him a look, "not solely on their body. He's a decent guy."
"Yeah," she said but continued thinking of what she needed to do before this trip. "But I am a cow? Thanks."
"Of course not! You are nowhere near a cow," Tom tried to back pedal, clearly that was the part he should have addressed first, even if it was the stupidest part. Fiona climbed over him and went into the bathroom. "Are you really mad?"
There was no response on the other side of the door. Tom rolled his eyes, he didn't think he was on par with Leo but he wasn't about to storm off about it.
"Fi, you know I definitely don't think you're a cow or anything other than perfect. I'm sorry I didn't say you weren't a cow instantly. You would be the sexiest woman there, without a doubt," he tried to think of any way he could recover. "Please come out. I didn't mean it."
Fiona opened the door with a smile, "I just had to pee, but thanks for all the compliments."
"Wait, you're not mad?" Tom stood dumbfounded as she walked back to the bed.
"No," she laughed. "I don't think you think I'm a cow. I don't even really think Leo will think that, I guess."
"Ok…" Tom said slowly.
