The first 2 months of the new year Tom had been pretty busy preparing for his next role. He had read and reread the book that that the screenplay was written off of. Getting more of a sense of who his character was with each read, Tom made notes and tried to adapt into it.
When he wasn't reading, researching, or rehearsing, he was training. His friend from back home had come to visit for a few weeks to help start a new foundation of muscle that would eventually be turned into that of super villain Bane. When Tom was personally asked to be in Christopher Nolan's final Batman, he could not say no. He wasn't too excited about all the stress that he would have to put his body through again but to work alongside Christan Bale was an honor. Plus, the geek inside Tom was stoked to meet Batman.
After gaining a third of the bulk, Tom had to spend practically every day maintaining it, especially through filming The Wettest County, which was renamed Lawless. With such an intense regimen, going more than a day without training would result in muscle loss.
For the next 6 weeks Tom was put up in an apartment outside Atlanta. Fiona had gone to visit him after only a week of him being gone. He was excited to show her around the set and introduce her to his co-stars, most of whom she wasn't too familiar with.
One in particular stood out to her, sending Fiona uncomfortable vibes. The woman, Jessica, was Fiona's height but had medium length bright red hair. She was the only woman on set and she seemed to already be fast friends with Tom. Despite Fiona's presence, she was still by his side most of the day; Fiona couldn't tell if that was a good or bad sign.
The night before Fiona's last day, they had tickets to see Bright Eyes in Atlanta. It was a folk band that Fiona had been into for over a decade and she was eager to spend the night there with Tom. Of course the day did not go as planned. There were issues all day with filming whether technical or things that needed to be reconstructed for the scene to flow better. Dragging into the early evening Fiona grew impatient. Obviously she knew Tom's job was not a 9-5 cut and dry schedule, but there seemed to be one key figure that kept having issues. Fiona tried not to take Jessica's actions personally but she couldn't help but feel she was slowing things down intentionally.
"I just don't get it," Jessica laughed, as the director went over her scene with her yet again.
Fiona looked at Tom who was on his mark in front of the cameras. While he had already addressed the slowness of the shoot and hoped they'd be done soon, he sure was in a good mood as Jessica single handedly tried to ruin their night.
"You're probably not gonna be done any time soon, huh?" Fiona asked as Tom walked off set for a drink between takes.
"Oh," he looked back at the brightly light interior. "I don't know when honestly. Do you want to just go?"
"What, by myself?" She clarified. She definitely did not want to go alone, but did she want to stay there and watch this woman giggle like a schoolgirl at everything Tom said for the next hour or more?
"Yeah," he nodded. "I can hopefully meet you before it's over. I sure fucking hope so."
"I guess... "
Deciding to go to the concert alone, she missed the opening acts by the time she drove the 45 minutes to the city and park. Fiona was angry with Tom for making her go without him. She knew it wasn't his fault but she felt he was at least partially to blame for Jessica being smitten by him.
An hour later Tom joined her with huge apologies. They ended up having a nice night out, considering the way it began.
"So, Jessica is a bit... much," she said trying to find the nicest words.
