The driveway and windows were pitch black, no sign of light anywhere on the property. Fiona wondered if he was sleeping or better yet if she would find him sleeping with someone in their bed. She knocked on the door anyway, needing to see him. Nothing. No Woody barking behind the door. Just silence and darkness.

She dug in her purse for the alarm remote, if he had in fact changed the code she was about to alert the police that she was now an intruder. She clicked the disarm button and let out a sigh of relief as the alarm light turned from red to green. She put her key in the lock and entered.

"Tom?" She shouted. No answer. The house smelled of him, a smell she missed. She flipped on the lights and looked around. It was exactly how she left it almost 13 agonizing weeks ago. She wondered if he had gone back to London after she told him to leave her hospital room. She had always imagined him within walking distance when she was working but he may not have even been in the country. She wasn't sure which made her feel worse.

As walked towards the bedroom, wondering why she went inside in the first place, she opened the door to a perfectly made bed. Right, she remembered he was to finally start filming in South Africa and had probably been gone for over a month already.

She laid on the bed and hugged his pillow. It smelled like Tom still. Tears poured out as she cried herself to sleep in a bed that was no longer hers.

Waking up to the familiar bright morning sun in her eyes. She sat up with a deep breath and thought about her hasty decision. Should she be glad he wasn't there? Could she really forgive him?

Her heart was still in her stomach, making her feel she could throw up from the agony. She thought about making the drive back to her mom's like she ought to, but instead she Googled tickets to Cape Town.

Surprisingly the tickets were not all that expensive. It was cheaper if she bought a round trip one but she was hoping she wouldn't need it.

She scrolled through her contacts and hit dial.

"Melanie? It's Fiona," she said into the receiver when she picked up.

"Oh, hey. What's up? Are you looking for Tom?" Melanie said into the receiver cheerfully.

"He's not with you is he?" Fiona wasn't sure which answer she preferred.

"No, no, he left weeks ago," Fiona could hear typing on the other end.

"Is there any way you could tell me where he's staying? I fucked up and I need to see him," Fiona confessed. Melanie and her were friendly but mostly they were just work acquaintances through Tom.

"Uh, yeah just you didn't get it from me," she replied slightly hesitant. "Aren't you scared of flying?"

"Don't remind me," Fiona would need to make sure she had enough xanax to make it through the 24 hours in the sky. The whole trip would take her a day and a half with traveling to the airport plus the 9 hour layover in the middle east.

"I just forwarded it to you," Melanie said, Fiona heard the notification beep in her ear.

"Thanks Melanie, hopefully I'm not going there, just to come right back home," Fiona wondered how much she knew and how much she even talked to Tom about that stuff, if at all.

"He will be happy, Fiona," Melanie encouraged, "he's been a real tit lately."

"That doesn't make me feel better," Fiona laughed. She knew what she meant but it could really go either way. "Thanks though, Melanie."

"International flights, remember you have to be there 3 hours in advance," Melanie reminded her.

As much as Fiona wanted to jump on a plane at that moment, she knew she should go home to pack, think it over, talk to her mom. She knew that no matter what anyone said she needed to see him. He would be in the desert for at least 4 months and she already had been without him for over 2 months.
