"This has been an amazing birthday," Fiona kissed Tom's neck as he opened the door to their hotel room. "You're a perfect boyfriend."
"Tell that to my exes," Tom laughed and entered into the cold, dark room. He had a bad track record, most of his exes hated him by the end of their relationship. They found him exhausting.
"Uh, no I will not," she laughed, "you're mine." Fiona fell back onto the bed, exhausted from the long day. She kicked off her shoes and shook out her hair from her ponytail. She patted at the bed next to her.
Tom was about to jump on the bed next to her when there was a knock. He shrugged to Fiona and walked across to answer it. Fiona heard him open the door without a word. She sat up and peered around the wall. She spied Callie with a box, but Tom blocked most of it.
"Happy birthday to you," they began to sing as Tom turned around revealing a cake with 5 candles lit on top. Callie turned the lights off as they walked in, Tom stumbled for a moment and laughed.
Fiona hopped off the bed and waited for them to come all the way in. As they got closer, the candles showed Fiona with a huge smile. She made a wish and blew out the candles. Callie flicked the lights back on and they sat around eating cake. Fiona gushed about the amazing day at the zoo she had. Tom had taken photos of Fiona holding and feeding the lemurs, you could tell she was having the time of her life.
. . . .
"I think I hate your job," Fiona said, stroking Tom's hair as they got into bed after cake with Callie.
"Yeah?" His eyes met hers, the city lights shone bright in the dark room. He was mostly studying her face, knowing in 12 hours she would be gone. They were spoiled in L.A. those few months together, at least he was in the same country as her but that could and would change.
"It literally kills me to be away from you," Fiona whispered. She dreaded sleeping, knowing that she would be losing that time with him.
"I know, love," Tom was just as sad as she was. He loved his job and the security that came with it but it did tend to ruin all of his relationships in one way or another.
"But I had an amazing weekend with you," she watched as his hair fell through her fingers. "This is by far my favorite day."
Tom's full lips pressed against Fiona's. His hands caressed each curve of her body, cherishing every inch of her. She held onto him in an embrace that she never wanted to let go. The warmth of his breath against Fiona's skin gave her goosebumps. Everything he did felt magnetized since they both knew they would be without it for a while.
The moans that filled the room were softer rather than like the screams earlier. Their fingers laced together, needing the constant contact, as they moved as one under the sheets. Their eyes were locked on each other, breaking the connection only when overcome with pleasure.
"I love you," Tom whispered in her ear afterwards, their fingers still laced together.
"I love you," Fiona stroked his back with her nails.
They were silent for a while, both staring at the ceiling. Each thinking about forgoing their careers to spend more time together. Tom glanced at the clock, it was just after midnight.
"I don't even know your middle name," Tom asked, breaking the silence.
Fiona laughed and rolled towards him, "Josephine. It's after my uncle, well, and my grandfather too, I guess."
"Fiona Josephine Hardy," Tom said quietly, then louder, "Hudson."
"Did you just put your last name with my name?" Fiona teased.
