Fiona sat in the booth next to Tom who kissed her on the cheek as if he was graciously accepting her back to the gathering. Kelly shuffled in a few moments later. Tom and Kelly continued reminiscing about parties and gossiping about people they knew once upon a time.
"I saw Charlotte, have you met Charlotte?" Kelly asked Fiona who shook her head and looked at Tom for explanation. "Oh she's one of the many exes of our dear Tom here. She's great though, she's a good one."
"Yeah, so you saw her?" Tom hurried her to the point. He gave Fiona's side a squeeze as if to make her feel comfortable that they were discussing one of his ex girlfriends. She was to feel fine about that, yet she sat across someone Tom was holding back information on.
"Yeah, she's dating someone. I think his name is Rupert?"
"Riveting," Tom laughed.
"I didn't say it was exciting news," Kelly laughed and excused herself to the bathroom, "I'll be right back."
Tom pulled Fiona close and kissed her cheek. Closing her eyes as his soft lips touched her skin, she could smell his cologne mixed with his shampoo.
"Everything good?" He whispered in her ear.
Fiona laughed and smiled, but shook her head. Nothing was good, she thought. She took an unnecessary photo that she didn't apologize for but Tom talked about her being ill mannered and was hiding a great deal from her.
"What?" He laughed thinking she was being coy.
"Just wait," her smile was more sarcastic. Tom got the hint that when they got home it wasn't going to be drunken sex. But he was in store for a late night.
Tom stuck cash into the black folder for their drinks, minus the ones Fiona already paid for up at the bar. When she returned, Tom tucked Kelly under his arm as they shared a cigarette out on the sidewalk. Fiona usually didn't smoke so she stood off to the side, alone.
She texted Callie the updated situation to get her opinion, while Tom and Kelly excluded her anyway.
CALLIE 12:12AM: Fuck. That's fucked up, Fi.
FIONA 12:12AM: Right, I'm not overreacting?
CALLIE 12:13AM: Not at all.. good luck
Fiona tucked her phone back into her pocket and spun her clutch around her finger, bored. Tom kissed Kelly on the cheek as they said goodbye. Kelly extended a wave from a distance to Fiona. Fiona smiled as friendly as she could manage.
Tom joined up with Fiona to walk the block and a half to his car.
"Ok, let's hear it," Tom said.
"Do you have anything you need to say to me?" Fiona asked, giving him the opportunity to tell her but also hoping he wouldn't because she was beyond angry about it.
"You want me to apologize for getting angry you snapped a photo with a stranger?" Tom asked. He rolled his eyes and sighed, "Fine, I'm sorry."
"Now your turn then," he suggested.
"Oh me?" Fiona scoffed. "I'm sorry I embarrassed you in front of your ex."
"My ex? I never dated Kelly, love," he said almost patronizing.
"Oh right, right. Not your ex, you guys just fucked," Fiona stopped walking. She stood under an old street lamp, the light barely illuminated the immediate area around the pole.
"Who told you that?" Tom asked, as if he was about to deny it.
"She did," Fiona announced. "She told me."
