"Wow, man you're huge!" Fiona's cousin Eric said walking out into the back yard. Eric was just a year older than Tom so they got along well. They both were hysterical together. Fiona had always loved holidays that Eric was able to join them for; he always made everyone laugh. He was an anesthesiologist so there were some holidays he had to work, but as he gained seniority he got most of them off now. Eric spent most of his life a bachelor, never settling down, which is how he liked it. He wanted the perfect woman and he found flaws in each of the ones he dated.
"Yeah yeah, I know" Tom replied. "I only have 3 weeks left to bulk up so it's been intense."
"I've been measuring how much weight I've gained by what size coin I can fit in my belly button," Eric laughed and continued, "I still have a ways to go before it's a quarter so I'm not worried yet."
Tom let out a high pitched uncontrolled laugh.
The two laughed together as they walked down to the pool where the rest of the family was. Eric hugged his sister, Tammy, and her husband who were already there with their 2 young children that were Nolan's age.
Fiona's mother and aunt were helping her in the kitchen prep all the salads. Fiona figured they had the bigger house, a bigger yard, and a pool. Time to step up, Fiona thought. She bought burgers and chicken but as she was opposed to meat, Tom was in charge of grilling. It grossed her out to think of raw dead animals on his hands.
Tom grabbed some Doritos from the basket on the patio table before checking on Fiona back inside.
"Hey babe," he put his hand on her lower back. She wore a light blue off the shoulder top with high waisted jean shorts that accentuated her hourglass figure.
"Hi," she said, sweetly looking up at him with a smile. Tom took a baby carrot from the platter she was organizing and popped it into his mouth. Fiona squinted her eyes at him, "You only love me for my carrots, I see how it is."
Tom winked at her. They both laughed in response. He kissed her on the cheek, still chewing the crunchy carrot.
"Can you put this out please?" She asked him as she scooped the last of the ranch dressing into the center of the plate.
"Sure," he grabbed another carrot before taking the red tray. Fiona smiled watching him walking to the patio and down to party. Her heart thudded slightly.
Finishing up cutting some fresh cucumbers and tomatoes for the salad, she tossed it all together in a large glass bowl before carrying it out.
They don't barbecue much in London, but Tom knew the basics. He threw on some burgers and him and Eric monitored their cooking while talking about the house. Eric had purchased a house around the same time as them, a year ago, but hadn't finished furnishing yet. He worked a lot so he had several rooms that were just left empty.
The kids ran around the pool and sprayed each other with water guns. The small wading area was perfect for the 3 year olds. Tammy's older child Molly who had just turned 7, was jumping in from the side with a life jacket on just in case.
Fiona sat on a lounge chair next to the pool and pet a wet and slightly smelly yellow lab. Woody watched over the kids closely. As much as he liked the water, he tended to sink straight to the bottom every time he attempted it. He liked the kids splashing him, he would jump back and forth as they squirted him with their guns or poured buckets of water on him. He was just like one of the kids and everyone found it a riot to watch.
"Did you guys set a date yet," Fiona's Aunt Lori asked, sitting down on a lounge chair next to her with a burger.
"No not at all," Fiona laughed, "Definitely not this year that's for sure. I'm not in a rush, also I'd like Tom to not look like the Hulk in a suit."
