CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
FREED

THEY WERE ROLLING through a snowy Hogsmeade. Artemis caught a glimpse of the Hog's Head down its side street, the severed boar's head sign creaking in the wintry wind. Flecks of snow hit the large window at the front of the bus. At last, they rolled to a halt outside the gates to Hogwarts.

Lupin and Tonks helped them off the bus with their luggage, then got off to say goodbye. Artemis glanced up at the three decks of the Knight Bus and saw all the passengers staring down at them, noses flat against the windows.

"Hey Kiddo," Tonks's voice called behind her. Artemis turned around and looked at her cousin with a confused expression. Tonks smirked and jokingly shoved the girl's shoulder, making Artemis stumble. "Take care for yourself, Kiddo. I'll see you once we're back home again." Tonks smiled dashingly, her purple hair turning into bright yellow.

Artemis forced a smile, "Yeah, we'll see after a few months, Dora."

We'll not.

"Take care for aunty till I'm gone."

Tonks let out a laugh, "Okay, now go before you catch flu."

Artemis once again nodded and made her way to the entrance, carrying the trunk after her. Her eyes darted to Harry and Remus who were in deep conversation. By the man's look, it was something important. Remus felt her gaze on him and turned to Artemis, sending her a reassuring smile, like he knew that the girl was nervous and tried to calm her. That brought a genuine smiled on Artemis's face. She didn't know Remus as well as Harry, but it was enough that he was making Dora happy.

Remus was a good and polite man with a calm disposition. Honestly, sometimes she was surprised by the fact that he was in love with a hyperactive, loud and a rather clumsy person like Dora. But this is love, after all, to accept the person with their good and bad traits. This was true love, and Remus and Dora were a clear example that differences are nothing in the way of love.

She headed for the castle as Harry followed her behind her. The twelve of them struggled up the slippery drive towards the castle, dragging their trunks. Hermione was already talking about knitting a few elf hats before bedtime. Artemis glanced back when they reached the oaken front doors; the Knight Bus had already gone.

The day was uneventful. The classes were boring, and Artemis, as always, didn't even reach for his textbooks. She kept trying not to bury her face in the desk as she held the urge to not fall asleep. She was having her dinner, sitting beside Hermione, because Fred and George went somewhere. Her mood was further lowered by the DA members constantly approaching in the corridors between classes, asking hopefully if there would be a meeting that night.
