CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO ANOTHER DETENTION
ARTEMIS HAD NOT found it an easy experience to talk about the night when Voldemort had returned. Rita had pressed her and Harry for every little detail and they had given her everything they could remember, knowing that this was their one big opportunity to tell the world the truth. Artemis wondered how people would react to the story. She guessed that it would confirm a lot of people in the view that she was a crazy psychopath just like her mother. But the breakout of the Death Eaters had given Artemis a burning desire to do something, whether or not it worked.
"Can't wait to see what Umbridge thinks of you and Potter going public," said Theo, shoving his fork in the grilled chicken. Apollo beside him was looking unfazed while, as always, he had stuck his face in the book of the Ancient Runes.
The twins hadn't said a word to each other in a long time. After their mother escaped from prison, the tension between them grew, and instead of supporting each other, they fought constantly. Fear had taken over their minds, making them more vulgar and aggressive toward each other. Artemis didn't even know why she was angry with her brother, it was just that his very presence made her blood boil. And Apollo was not one of the most understanding people, so instead of reconciling with his sister, he continued to be stubborn and infuriate her even more.
No one but Tom and Daphne knew about her mother's letters. Even her brother. This secret was eating Artemis inside. She began to behave colder, more closed, not even Hermione could get the truth out of her. No one can help her anyway, Artemis had no choice.
"It's the right thing to do," said Artemis, stirring the fork into her uneaten food as she stared blankly at the plate. In a second she snapped her head towards her brother who scoffed dryly. "My dear sister, it must have been difficult for you to speak."
Artemis's dark eyes narrowed and she sent a cold glare at her brother. "Shut up and read your damn book, bookworm." Apollo snorted and harshly closed the book, glasses and plates around started to clang when he slammed his book in the table. "Why are you at this table at all?" You're not in Slytherin, go to your table, sister."
Artemis threw the fork in the plate and she got up from the table, leaning over her brother, who did not take his angry gaze off her. "What's wrong? You don't want me because Slytherins prefer me to you? It's not my problem that I'm better than you- "
"Artemis-" Josie warned but immediately shut up on Apollo started to laugh historically. "You better than me? Artemis, I don't even know how you got to this year without my, Pansy's, or Granger's help."
Suddenly, Artemis's plate landed on Apollo's face. Everyone at Slytherin's table gasped in shock as Apollo tried to clear the food from his face. Josie immediately started giving him napkins, and Mia, Pansy, and Theo looked away, not wanting to interfere. Artemis got up from the table, went to Apollo, and hit him with his book behind his head. "Next time watch your mouth, arrogant idiot. And I hope you liked my dinner."
