CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
MURDER

ARTEMIS could truthfully admit that she had slept better last night than in previous months. Her bed in the new dorm was far more comfortable than that of her bed in Rosewood Manor or in the Gryffindor Common Room. Here it was sleeping on a cloud, a very comfy cloud.

After she had showered in her en-suite, she walked into the common room area of her dorms to see her friends already up. Draco was sat in the bay window, an apple in his hand as he looked over the courtyard of the school. Theo sat opposite him, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration as he carefully wrote out a letter. Daphne sat on the sofa, a glass of orange juice in her hand as she watched her husband in exasperation.

Tom was pacing the room, a book in his left hand, a glass of orange juice in his right hand with his wand held between his teeth. His green and silver Slytherin tie hung loosely from his neck and his sleeves were rolled up to his shoulders.

"Did he get any sleep at all?" Artemis asked mid-yawn. Daphne shook her head, sighing through her nose as Artemis sat next to her. Daphne led across the sofa, her head resting in Artemis's lap.

"He's refusing to talk to anyone," Daphne told her, looking up at the Lestrange girl. "He's so adamant about breaking that curse."

"Where the fuck am I going to get a fucking ruby from!" Tom said angrily, slamming the book closed and tossing it down on the coffee table. He slumped down in the armchair, pulling a packet of cigarettes and a muggle lighter from his pocket.

"Got a new favourite word there, Tom," said Artemis jokingly, causing the boy to glare at her playfully as he offered her a cigarette. Artemis took one, lightening one up and playfully blowing the smoke in Daphne's face.

"Fuck off," Tom smirked at her, holding up his right middle finger.

"Shall we get breakfast then?" Theo spoke up from his place in front of Draco. The group collectively hummed, gathering their book bags from their dorm rooms before meeting back up in the common room.

"They're staring at us," said Draco when they entered the Great Hall.

"They probably noticed we're not in our usual dorm rooms," Theo shrugged, taking a seat at the Slytherin table. Artemis sat next to him, with Draco on her other side as the Rosewood's sat opposite them.

The ceiling of the Great Hall was serenely blue and streaked with frail, wispy clouds, just like the squares of sky visible through the high mullioned windows. While they tucked into porridge and eggs and bacon, the group discussed the subjects they'd be taking this year.
