CHAPTER SIXTY-SEVEN
THE COVERUP

ARTEMIS' heartbeat rang in her ears as she rushed through the empty corridors, ignoring the portraits shouting as she ran. The last twenty minutes played in her head on a loop.

It was going perfectly. They had the fucking necklace. Now Chloe Marchand was dead, and Artemis was an accomplice to her murder. Artemis made it to the Death Eaters quarters, bursting through the door to see Draco sat in the armchair by the fire, a book in his hand. He glanced up at the disruption, seeing Artemis panicked stricken face.

"Draco, you've got to help!" Artemis gasped before Draco could talk. "Th-there's been a murder. We need to get rid of the body."

"Murder? What the fuck is going on?'' Draco asked, standing up, his book long forgotten as he walked closer to Artemis. "What happened?"

"T-Tom, I-Isa and I- we were tr-trying to get Chloe's n-n-necklace!" Artemis began to sob into his shirt. "I-I-It was an accident! Tom killed her!"

"Shit," Draco whispered, letting go off Artemis, running his fingers through his platinum blonde hair. "Shit, shit, shit, this is fucked," he whispered, tugging lightly on his hair.

"P-please, you have to help us," Artemis begged him. Draco nodded, causing Artemis to sigh in relief as they began walked back towards the Gryffindor tower. "We can't tell Theo, nor Daphne, it'll destroy her."

In one of the girls' rooms, quiet sobs could be heard. Tom was curled up in a ball beside the bed where Chloe lay dead. He had buried his head in his legs, trembling and crying softly.

Isa was beside him, wrapping her arms around him in a strong embrace, not letting go of the boy who was trembling with terror.

"What have I done, oh my god what have I done," Tom muttered, sniffling as he rocked back and forth slightly. Isa next to him was gently stroking his back, the traces of tears still visible on her face. She didn't say anything, she knew that words wouldn't calm the boy down, so she stood tightly by his side not letting go while Artemis went to look for Draco for help.

Many unanswered questions were popping into her head. What will happen to them? Will they arrest them? What would her mother think of her being a participant in a murder? Her mother had sent her to Hogwarts with the idea of improving, and Isa probably ruined her life with the accident that happened tonight.

There was no turning back, Isa wasn't going to run, she was determined to take her place beside the boy. This world was not made for cowards, so Isa, like the others, would not flee.

Isa and Tom's heads snapped up when they heard the creak of the door opening into the room. Relief washed over their faces as Artemis and Draco entered the room.

Draco strode to Chloe's body looking her over for a moment, hoping that maybe there had been a mistake and the girl was alive. But there was no mistake, the French's pale and cold body lay motionless on the bed.
