CHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE
BETRAYAL

(Apologies :,])
Katie Bell was still in St Mungo's Hospital with no prospect of leaving, which meant that the promising Gryffindor team Harry had been training so carefully since September was one Chaser short. As much as he didn't like the idea, he needed the help of the person he dreaded the most this year, and there was only one woman who could persuade Lestrange to play for her house one last time.

Artemis was in the library with Elliot for another Transfiguration tutoring session. A few desks ahead was Hermione, who in turn was helping with Jaime Holloway's Potions homework while casting longing gazes at Artemis, who was either too focused on her work with Elliot or simply ignoring Hermione's soft brown eyes that were focused on her.

After the fight with her friends Artemis had no time nor desire to deal with Hermione. There's too much going on in her head and the girl was growing tired and frustrated with the situation she was put in. The thing that angered her the most was how Draco and Theo kept following her like minions everywhere she went which at some point lead to her lashing out at them to leave her alone for once which they reluctantly did but Artemis knew that once she was out of the library her cousin and supposed fiancé would follow her again.

The hidden common room was silent. No one spoke, not even a whisper. Against the harsh stares, Artemis swallowed hard and walked into the room, her face exuding an all too knowing expression. It seemed to resonate with the others – Daphne, Tom, and Isabella, even Draco and Theo. None of them could avoid it, no matter their allegiance or what they did in the last few months.

It didn't matter to them, Artemis thought, bitter. It doesn't matter what they did because they were Slytherins, and Death Eaters, and they were wrong, dark... *evil*.

As normal, the fireplace crackled just loud enough to disturb the silence. But still, the tension between the Slytherins was heavy, and some of that came from the fact that none of them were speaking to one another. But more of it – most of it – was caused by the fact that they all knew what happened to Chloe.

And now her murder was a nightmare that lived with them, that haunted them as they stood, silent and unwavering.

Draco was there, of course. But he was an even paler shade of himself. Beside him stood Theo, face blank, waiting for the silence to finally break. The others were there, too. Daphne, Tom, and Isabella – the three of them huddled together on the other side of the room, separated from the rest.

This was what Hogwarts – and the rest of the world – had done to Artemis and her friends. Ruin them, one by one, until the only choices they had were to either run or deal with the truth.
