CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT
QUIDDITCH TRYOUTSAS ARTEMIS had predicted, the sixth-years' free periods were not the hours of blissful relaxation she had anticipated, but times in which to attempt to keep up with the vast amount of homework they were being set. Not only were they studying as though they had exams every day, but the lessons themselves had become more demanding than ever before. The Lestrange girl had hard time understanding half of what Professor McGonagall said to them these days; even Hermione had had to ask her to repeat instructions once or twice.
Non-verbal spells were now expected, not only in Defense Against the Dark Arts, but in Charms and Transfiguration too. Artemis frequently looked over at her classmates at mealtimes to see them purple in the face and straining as though they had overdosed on U-No-Poo; but she knew that they were really struggling to make spells work without saying incantations aloud. It was a relief to get outside into the greenhouses; they were dealing with more dangerous plants than ever in Herbology, but at least they were still allowed to swear loudly if the Venomous Tentacula seized them unexpectedly from behind.
Certainly the months spent over the summer practising non-verbal spells had their effect. To Potter's dismay, he had noticed quite often how the group of young Death Eaters handled the non-verbal spells with ease. This also brought suspicion to them, especially after Chloe's mysterious disappearance.
Harry Potter's already too obsessed with the fact that if these five are Death Eaters, then they're the cause of the French girl's disappearance.
Entering the Great Hall, they made their way to Slytherin's table. From the corners of her eyes, Artemis spotted Chloe's two friends, anxiously questioning various people if they had seen the girl by chance.
This went on for a few days when they found the dorm she and Isa shared empty. And like her roommate, they turned to Isa with questions.
"You happen to have seen her? Please tell me she was with you," one of the girls, Scarlett Campbell, pleaded anxiously.
Isa swallowed anxiously, she went all pale with stress, falling over her words attempting to give a coherent explanation. And Harry, observant as he is noticed this and immediately headed towards them.
"Do you talk about Chloe by chance? Something you know, Isa? You two sleep in the same room, after all," Harry asked, his voice timid and his tone demanding. He narrowed his eyes, landing them straight at Isa, portraying a cold scowl.
Isa stumbled over her words, raising her left hand to run it through her hair when she noticed the group of Death Eaters walk in, causing her to release a quiet breath of relief. The group of five walked up to Scarlett, her friend and Harry, stopping short behind Isabella.
"She was with us, Potter," said Artemis, her hand inching closer to her wand. She and her friends wasn't stupid enough to start a duel during breakfast, but Harry certainly was.
