CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE
BUILDING THE WALLS

IT HAD BEEN less than two months since Artemis had arrived at Rosewood's mansion, and she wanted summer to end.

She laid in her bed in Rosewood Manor, staring up at the ceiling. This summer had been the worst with all the trials she had to face before she could get branded as a Death Eater, though she was thankful that she had Daphne, Draco and Theo doing the trails alongside her, and Tom who helped them all through it.

She didn't think she'd survive without the four of them being there. Especially during the nights when all the Death Eaters left Rosewood Manor and it was just her and her family left alone.

Augustus and Bellatrix were probably the worst when it came to their methods of punishment. If Artemis or Tom had put a single toe out of line, they would be punished instantly wether it be by the Cruciatus Curse or something entirely different.

In the middle of it all, Artemis still managed to find time to help Daphne and the other Pureblood women help plan the big Rosewood Wedding. Artemis had probably looked at thousand different cakes and dresses by now, and though she was happy for her cousin and his fiancé, she would be glad when the entire thing would be over.

There was one trial left, but Artemis already knew that the last one was nothing compared to what she had done to the second.

The first trial was not so terrible.  The four of them had to defeat one the Death Eaters in a duel. Fortunately for Artemis, she duelled with none other than Dolohov. It took a week and with training and punishments so the four could beat their rivals, but in the end they succeeded; Artemis managed to wrap Dolohov in a rope trap and send him to the ground with stunning; Draco burst Avery's clothes into flames and stole his wand; Most of the time, Daphne used protective charm until she grabbed the right moment and threw an explosion at Macnair;  Theo was quick in his actions and used a trap spell to stop the attacker.

Bellatrix was pleased, and so was Voldemort.

But just when Artemis thought the worst was over, Augustus brought the four of them in a hidden room, the view in front of them would haunt their souls for life: Thousands of muggles trapped in narrow cages that lay on the floor and hung from the high ceiling. All the muggles were so skinny that their bones protruded from their porcelain-pale skin as they squeezed into the narrow space of the cage.

Trying to avoid the chilling sight, Artemis looked away, but immediately regretted it when her eyes caught a mountain of bloodied and disfigured bodies at the far corner of the room.  The eyes of the dead were wide open, full of horror and fear in their last moments of life. Along with these bodies were not only adults, there were also children helplessly taken from their parents and tortured to death. How could anyone be capable of such a thing, Artemis thought.
