Lying in his bed, Peter begins to have the same thoughts he always does. It's been two months since Mysterio died, three since Tony. The world hates Spider-Man, but he doesn't care, not at all. He thinks back to that day, that awful day when Mysterio had betrayed him. He closes his eyes and starts to remember, against his will.
"Maybe if you were good enough... Tony would still be alive."
The words barely had time to circulate in his head before the surroundings changed once again. How had he been so stupid, how could he trust in Mysterio? The betrayal wasn't the worst thing, the worst thing was that the words had truth to them. If only Peter had have taken the gauntlet instead, or just stopped Tony from doing it.
He came back from the dead only to be dropped into the worst possible scenario, the final battle. He remembers seeing Tony for the first time, not realising how much he had missed his kid. He remembers the hug so vividly, the smell that he had missed, the comforting hands on his back. He can practically see the tears in Tony's eyes, pure happiness and relief, Peter had never seen him so happy before.
He opens his already watery eyes and looks up to see Tony's grave. His breath hitches in his throat, the name "Anthony Stark" already starting to fade away. And then the hand comes through the damp ground, he's covered in his armour, just like he was when he died. The breath is still gone, Peter can't cry or shout in anger, he just stares in horror.
The nightmare only gets worse as the rest of Tony's body comes crawling out, his face is gone, all that's left is a broken skull. Spiders and insects surround the bones that are left. The kid wants to sob, but fear and panic make his fight response come into play, he pushes himself backwards trying to get away.
What hurts the most is knowing that this is the terrible reality of what's happened to his father figure. Tony really is gone. Under the dirt and starting to decompose, the world's best hero is no more. The kid sits on in his bed and leans his head against the wall, only now seeing the tear drops falling to his blankets.
He sighs and stands up, looking to the picture of him and Tony, both of them smiling happily. He wishes that it could go back to that, more than anything in the world.
There's nothing left that he can do, nothing except try and make life better for the ones he loves. So, he gets up and puts on his suit, walking quietly out the front door and slipping into the alleyways beside the apartment building. He swings his way across town, the cold wind clearly up the tears left on his face. He spends some time admiring the world around him, letting it distract him from his stupid thoughts.
He finally arrives at the cabin, it's completely isolated, calm and peaceful in the countryside. He takes off his mask and knocks on the door.
The door opens slowly, and he's met with a smile, "she's upstairs." Pepper says, embracing him in a hug before letting him slip past her.
He walks up the steps slowly, looking at all the pictures of Tony, the newspaper clippings from his best saves. And then he gets to the pink door, the word "Morgan" printed in big letters.
He opens it slowly, peaking his head around the corner. He barely has any time to say anything before the young child throws herself into his arms.
"Hi! How's my favourite girl?" He says happily, holding her up away from his chest as she laughs.
"Hi Petey!" She exclaims excitedly, "look what I made!"
Peter sets her down, and watches as she runs over to her bedside table. She comes back with a piece of paper, a messy drawing of Spider-Man holding the hand of a kid depicted on it. The brown hair and pink bow make it clear that it's Morgan in the picture.
"Wow! Do you know where this is going? This is going right on my wall." He grins, all the sadness in him leaving. Morgan always makes him so proud, she's his little sister, he had always wanted one.
"Really?" She asks, wide eyed and cheeks red.
"Of course! I haven't seen art this good in forever." Peter replies.
"Look, look!" She says, pointing to the heart at the top corner of the page. "It's for you, mommy says that it means I love you."
"Oh you do? Is that right?" He smirks, picking her up again and throwing her in the air. "Because I love you most."
"Love you 3000." The kid smiles, wrapping her legs around him and resting her head on his shoulder. "Just like daddy did."
Peter sighs happily, Morgan was the one thing that kept him sane, the one thing he could always rely on, his little sister, "I love you 3000 too."
