"Can we please have a civil conversation?" Tony asks quietly, his voice hoarse from the hours he had already spent asking questions to try and get free.
"You're not tired yet? It's been hours. You're starting to annoy me, and we wouldn't want that, would we?" The woman tuts from the edge of his bed. Trying to negotiate with her was pointless, nothing the man said made any difference to her.
She moves closer to him and puts her hand through his hair lovingly. As soon as the billionaire tries to flinch away from her hand, her grip tightens.
Tony winces and finally snaps at her, "You're fucking crazy! Let me out of these things now!" He shakes the cuffs connecting his ankles and wrists to the bed.
She doesn't say anything as her eyes darken with anger, she just grabs the bandana that has been tied into a knot and forces it into his mouth. She ties it tight at the back as the man groans out in frustration.
"Shut up, love. A few more hours and you won't be my problem anymore." She caresses his cheek and brushes his hair from his face. "The people who are coming to get you aren't as nice as I am, you should watch how you speak to them. Now, go to sleep."
And as much as Tony wants to resist, the last time he refused to sleep she had chloroformed him. So instead he just closes his eyes and prays that someone finds him soon."Wake up." The woman's familiar voice whispers, tapping him lightly on his arm. "It's time to say goodbye."
Tony opens his eyes, a panicked mumble is all that can escape the gag. He's surrounded by three people, all of them in ski masks. He recognises the first person as the girl he had grown to despise after all the nights he had spent locked up. The other two were new, a girl and a boy.
"Thanks for keeping an eye on him, can't have him starving." The male assailant says to her.
"He's a brat, but he's easy to deal with." She replies with a smirk. Tony attempts to shout at her, he can feel the anger burning in his chest.
"Oh poor thing." The new woman says sarcastically, "Look how upset he is."
The man in the ski mask laughs as he sits at the edge of the bed. "You can go now," He tells the first woman. She walks over to the door and winks at Tony. "It was nice to meet you."
She slams the door shut after herself.
The billionaire can't help but hate himself as his chest begins to rise and fall faster and faster. He's scared. He's really scared.
"Here's what we're gonna do." The woman starts, a smile plastered on her face. "We are gonna record you, live stream that terrified little face to every news station in the world." She moves towards a bag at the side of the room and pulls out a camera and a stand for it to sit on.
"And then," The man cuts in, "You're gonna make us millionaires. The world would pay to get their best hero back. But another company will pay even more for us to hand you over." He grins, tracing his hand over the glowing arc reactor that can be seen even through his shirt. Tony trembles, it was automatic, it would be so easy for him to pull it out and let him die.
"So!" He continues happily, "Let's prepare you for an interview."
Tony starts to really struggle when he approaches him with a needle clutched in his hand. He sticks it into his arm, pinning him still with his right hand and begins to take blood from him. He fills the syringe to the top and then repeats the process with another one.
"Oh you'll love this." The woman says, she takes the syringes and places them carefully into a container. "We're selling these to some of your friends down at HYDRA. They're paying big money for this, the publicity is just an added bonus."
Tony's eyes widen, he thought that HYDRA had been gone for years. The two can tell that he's shocked, but choose to ignore it and instead move behind the camera."Here we go!" The man yells, as a button begins to flash red on the camera. He steps in front of it and gestures towards Tony.
"We have someone special with us today." He begins, he moves towards the genius and pulls his hair forward so that he's staring into the lens. "Do you wanna ask for some help? Huh, Stark?"
But Tony keeps a brave face and drops his head back down to the pillow once he lets go of his hair.
"He's shy." The man whispers with a chuckle. "We can take off the gag? You can tell the people some bullshit about how everything's gonna be fine?"
Tony wants to fucking kill him, but he nods anyways, much to the surprise of his captors. They thought he'd keep the silent demeanour.
He moves back towards the billionaire and bends down to say something in his ear.
"If you say any shit, I will beat you until you can't speak." His voice is completely different now, menacing and threatening.
He loosens the bandana and leaves it so that it hangs around Tony's neck.
"What do you wanna tell the audience, Stark?"
"HYDRAs back!" He shouts, "Steve don't-"
He's punched hard across the face, and he's almost certain he's broken his cheekbone. Tony splutters, but he's cut off when the gag is tightened once again.
"Okay!" He continues as though nothing had happened. "Now you're gonna see what happens to rich little shits like Stark or to assholes that don't obey their superiors." He gestures towards the woman and she throws him a knife and a small bottle.
Tony takes a deep breath and prepares himself for pain, it's just shallow cuts but as the hours pass he can feel himself losing consciousness.
They can't kill him, they already told him that. After all, this was just a "fun sleepover." They've already made plans for HYDRA to collect him at a drop point in two hours.
He's brought back from his thoughts as the man above him makes a deeper cut in his lower stomach.
"You didn't think that was your whole punishment? Did you?" He asks rhetorically, an evil glint in his eyes as he lifts the bottle and soaks a sponge in the liquid.
The first time the alcohol is pressed against one of his fresh wounds he can't help but let out a bloodcurdling scream. It's muffled by the gag of course, but his body still shakes in agony all the same.
Once it's removed, he tries to collect himself but when another dip of the cloth into the liquid is pressed against his wounded stomach, his head spins.
He passes out quickly, the pain too much to bear. A glass of cold water hits his face and wakes him up immediately though. They won't let him sleep, and he's sure HYDRA will do even worse things to him.
A shot of white light takes over his vision as it's pressed to his cuts again. He can't even hear himself cry anymore, he can't hear anything. After twenty minutes of this torture, he had passed out again, but he wasn't woken by water, he was woken by the sound of a struggle. He opens his eyes wearily to see his friends, Nat, Rhodey, Steve and about a dozen agents. They've got the captors in their custody and the genius realises that they've taken off his restraints.
"Can you see?" A voice startles him, but he turns his head to face Bruce kneeling at his side.
Tony nods his head. There's not much else he can do.
"Okay, that's good. Can you feel anything?"
The man simply shakes his head.
"That's good too, we're gonna sew some of your cuts up here before we can move you to a hospital. You've lost a lot of blood, buddy." Bruce smiles gently at him, the pain that he's feeling for his teammate is clear through his speech.
"I'm gonna put you under anaesthesia so you don't hurt, is that okay?" When he isn't met with an answer, the scientist decides to just put him under anyways.Ten hours later and Tony wakes up in a comfortable bed, two nurses at his side and practically his whole body bandaged.
Bruce looks over from across the room and sees that he's awake, he calls for the rest of their group and then walks towards him.
"Hey." Tony tries to say, but it's barely audible, his voice is gone from all the screaming.
"It's alright, don't speak." Steve says, rushing in past Bruce to see him.
"Jesus, Tony. I was so scared." Rhodey says with a sigh of relief. "That video was..." He can't even think of a word that's strong enough to describe how awful it was.
"We came just in time." Nat interrupts, "Four HYDRA agents had just arrived and they had already taken off your cuffs to lift you outside to a van. I'm sorry, Tony."
But the man just shakes his head with a weak smile. There wasn't anything they could have done. He was just glad to be home, at last. He was dreading feeling the pain from all those stitches, but deal with it later. Instead, he just decided to enjoy his own bed and sleep.
