(This is set two months after the events of Spiderman Homecoming)

'Hey, Mr. Stark. Today I saved a lady from being mugged and I stopped a car from hitting an old man. And that's my report for today, there wasn't a lot of action going on. But anyways, make sure to keep me in mind if you ever need help on a mission. It's Peter. Parker.'

Looking at the text message on his phone, Tony smiles and chuckles quietly. He doesn't know the kid that well yet, but he likes him all the same. He gets texts like that a lot, every night to tell him of all the ways he had helped the neighbourhood. He knows that Spiderman will make a great hero some day, maybe he'll even join the Avengers. But for right now, he's still just a child, only fifteen years old, and Tony can't risk putting him in serious danger. (Despite Peter's natural attempts to stop every bad thing in the world.) But they were getting closer, anyone could see it. Peter would come over on weekends to help upgrade his suit and work in the lab. Last week, they even watched a movie together with Pepper and Natasha. Tony worries about him a lot though, and apparently so does May. He got the phone call at half twelve on a Tuesday, there was panic in May's voice.
She had told him that Peter was sick in school, and that she couldn't leave work otherwise she'd get fired. Tony didn't know how that meant anything to him until May informed him that he's Peter's emergency contact. He didn't have anyone else. The next thing that scared him was that it should be impossible for Peter to get sick. Ever since the spider bite, he hasn't even gotten sick or felt unwell once. So, Tony decided to go to the school and pick him up. All eyes are on him as he walks through the school doors wearing his favourite glasses. He strolls right up to the desk and smiles at the women working.
"Hey, I'm here for Peter Parker? I heard he's sick and I'm his emergency contact." A hint of pride comes through his voice and he has to catch himself from smiling.
"We didn't think... we didn't know he was telling the truth." The lady says, flabbergasted.
"What?" Tony asks, anger settling inside him. "You thought Peter was lying about knowing me?"
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Stark. I'll get him to come down here." She says, fear and embarrassment clearly shown in her face. She turns around and picks up the phone. It takes less than two minutes for Peter to get to the front desk. And Jesus, he looks horrible. His face is pale, he's sweating, there's clear signs that he had vomited at least twice already and his hair is plastered to his face.
"What are you doing here?" He asks, rubbing his eyes with his fists like a little child. Tony can't help the protective nature he has for him.
"Here to take you home, we're gonna go to the Tower and get you feeling better. Okay?" His voice is soft, softer than Peter had ever heard him speak before. He just nods. Tony turns back to the desk and says,
"If Peter ever needs anyone, you call me. I'm here for him always. Don't let me hear any different."
The woman at the desk just nods and turns away.
"C'mon kiddo." He says, wrapping his arm around Peter's shoulders and leading him out to the car.
The journey is short, but Tony doesn't take his arm away from the kid. When they reach the Tower, they go straight inside and Tony gives Peter new clothes to wear. He changes in the bathroom and throws the dirty, vomit-smelling ones into the wash, and then he sits his shoes in the hallway. He can't help but be happy that Tony cared enough to come get him. His clothes are comfortable and plain, and he's finally feeling a little bit better. His stomach, however, was still in knots. He walks out into the main room and sees Tony sitting on the sofa with a blanket next to him.
"C'mere." He says quietly, gesturing to Peter. The kid walks over and sits down awkwardly.
Tony sighs and stands up, he uses his hand to lightly push Peter until he's lying back with his feet up on the couch.
"What are you doing?" He asks, wide eyes staring up at Tony, as he covers him with the blanket and sits back down.
"You're allowed to be cared for." He says, turning around to face him. "So, talk to me. What happened? Thought you couldn't get sick."
"I thought so too." Peter sighs. "I don't know, I haven't slept in a little bit I guess."
"FRIDAY run vitals on Peter Parker." Tony speaks out loud.
"Mr. Parker has increased body temperature and has not slept in thirty-one hours." The AI replies.
"Jesus Christ. I'm diagnosing you. You need sleep. What do you want? Warm milk or something?" Tony rubs the back of his neck and walks into the kitchen.
"Mr. Stark, really I'm okay." Peter says, sitting up a little bit.
"Nope, but you will be after you take a nap. You know you can always come stay here if you need some sleep? I can always just tell the school to back off if you need a few days to rest." He says reassuringly.
"Thanks...thank you." Peter doesn't really know what else to say. He's shocked that Ironman is taking care of him like he's a child.
"Don't mention it. Anyways, you're gonna go to sleep now and then I'll think about letting you go out patrolling tomorrow." Tony hands him the glass of milk and stands up to turn off the light. Peter finishes the glass quickly, but fear of being alone starts to take over him.
Just as Tony's about to hit the light switch, Peter speaks up.
"Mr. Stark? Can you lie here with me?" He immediately regrets it, feeling stupid and childish. That is until Tony turns the light off and gets underneath the covers beside him. Peter's head is laying on Tony's arm and his face is buried in his chest.
When Pepper finally gets home, she's surprised to find darkness. She assumes that her boyfriend had passed out on the couch, like usual. But when she looks, she finds a sight that she never thought she would. Tony Stark, as in the "lone wolf," is cuddled up next to the kid. A wide smile places itself on Pepper's face and she sighs happily. One day she would have a family like this, one with Peter and a child of her own. The thought is enough to make her forget all of the things she had been so stressed out about. And she leaves them with each other, knowing that now Tony was too far down the father road to come back.
