They've been searching for weeks. Three weeks and four days to be exact. Peter was taken captive by HYDRA for unknown reasons, but what they did know was that Tony'd do anything to get him back. As a mutant, they have plenty of reasons to experiment on the kid, find out what makes him tick. Or just hurt him. Even...
No. Tony couldn't afford to think about the fact that they may have already killed him. He can't. He's barely slept, surviving off of nothing but coffee and energy drinks. The rest of his friends know how bad it is for his health, but when it comes to Peter, they know that Tony would be willing to do anything to get him back. Pepper had tried to reason with him and make him sleep for a few hours, Rhodey had begged him to stop working on finding him for two minutes, but the pleads all fell on deaf ears. If Tony didn't save him, who would? No one else would be willing to sacrifice themselves for the kid, but Tony would. He'd spend every second on his computer if he thought there was even a one percent chance he could find Peter.
So when JARVIS informs him that someone is at the door, Tony doesn't bat an eye, just continues to work.
"Sir, I must insist that he comes in. He says he has news on Mr. Parker." JARVIS's robotic voice sounds through the speakers. Now that got his attention. He practically sprints down the stairs, knowing the elevator would be too slow and that he can't stand to stay still. By the time he gets to the lobby, he's panting in exhaustion. But he sees the man that stands out as soon as he gets there, he's in all black and has a cocky smirk on his face.
"Where is he?!" Tony yells, striding up to him and stopping when he's basically in his face.
"Take a step back, Mr. Stark." He begins, "We're done with the test subject, you can have him if you give us your word you won't go after our group."
"Don't fucking call him a 'test subject.' Give him to me." He snarls, his face is red and he can't ever remember being this angry before.
"He's outside the top floor on the balcony, might want to be careful though... He's not in a great frame of mind, can't be sure he won't walk off the side." He smiles, and then he walks straight out the door like nothing happened.
Tony gasps and the words spin in his head as he tries to process them. He's lightheaded but he rushes up the stairs anyways. Up fifteen floors and then towards the landing zone that he had made for his Iron-Man suit. And, sure enough, there's a boy laid out on the floor, arms by his sides and hair falling over his eyes. He pushes past the door and scoops the kid up in his arms, he's sweating and he's so worried but he can't stop. He runs over to the elevator and presses the buttons to get them down to the fourth floor. The Med Bay. Once he gets there, he finally rests for just a second, and then he runs his hand over Peter's face and wipes away a tear from his own face.
The boy is just staring at him. Blank expression. No emotions on his face at all. He looks physically fine, other than two small bruises on his face.
"Kid?" He asks, his voice hoarse with fear. Peter's eyes turn to face Tony's, but he doesn't get an answer.
"Kid, you gotta let me know that you're okay."
Peter's lethargic though, his eyes scan across the room in wonder.
But then he sits up straight.
"What?" Is the only mumbled word that escapes his mouth.
"Kid, talk to me. Tell me what happened." Tony says, grasping his attention as Peter's looks up at him.
"You... you... your name..." He splutters out, staring at him in confusion.
"You know my name, kid. I'm Tony." The older one whispers in a sad voice, he almost starts to cry before he's cut off by Peter's head dropping backwards on the pillow and his eyes closing.
"Hey, hey. You okay?" Tony asks, shaking him by the shoulders. He jolts up quickly, looking around erratically and beginning to panic. And then he bawls his eyes out, reaching out to grab at Tony's shirt and pull him closer.
"Hey, hey." He whispers, embracing the kid and lying up beside him in the bed. "You're alright, I got ya, you're alright."
Peter lets out a sob and then chokes out a word, "Dad..."
Tony can't believe his ears, he had wanted this for so long, had wanted for Peter to see him as a father, but not when he's so broken.
"Yeah... It's alright. You remember me?" Tony asks, tears streaming down his face as he tries to keep himself calm.
"I... of course..." The kid replies, choking between a cry and a laugh.
"Oh thank fuck." Tony sighs, letting himself cry with him.
"Don't let me go..." Peter whispers, clinging to him for life as the older wraps his arms around him.
"Wouldn't ever let you go again, kid." He promises. "What did they do? Talk to me, baby." He mumbles, comforting fingers in his hair.
"They hurt me..." He gasps, hiding his head in Tony's chest, "They hurt me so bad... I..."
"Woah, it's okay. I got ya. Just calm down, okay? Everything's okay now, I'm here with you. I'm here. You hear me?
I'm here."
