I decided to visit the 5 year old girl I supposedly saved from the fire. Rider saved her if I am being honest. It's Rider's idea but he said he will meet up with me later.
I pressed their doorbell, waited and then was greeted by the sight of a decently sized apartment. A woman, who I am guessing is her mother, welcomed me in, why would you even welcome a stranger into your house but I guess I was one of the people who saved their daughter's life.
The 5 year old girl ran out with some biscuits shoved into her mouth, seemingly excited to see me. The girl waved at me, so I waved at her in return. The woman clicked her tongue in annoyance and told her daughter to mind her manners and to wash her hands first before greeting me. The girl immediately rushed to the bathroom or somewhere after that.
"I am so sorry for her behaviour. So you are the girl who saved my daughter's life, but where is the boy who saved her life as well? I thought you guys were coming together."
"It's fine, her behaviour doesn't bother me, it's no biggie. Uh, the boy, Ri- Mizuno, suddenly has something to do, so he'll be arriving later."
I sighed inside my mind, I almost said Rider in front of the girl's mother.
"Well, thank you for saving my daughter and feel free to visit anytime. By the way, if you see my daughter acting strange, it's probably because she recently got identified as quirkless."
Oof. That's painful to know even if you never really hoped for a quirk. I mean not having a quirk in this society means getting belittled and bullied by others to make themselves feel better. Also, assuming that your daughter is acting 'strange' due to the discovery of her being quirkless is kinda rude, don't just assume things, no wonder your daughter is acting 'strange'.
"Ok."
At that exact moment, the girl skipped out and told me to follow her. The mother nodded and gestured for me to follow the girl's footsteps.
The girl led me to her room, well I assume it's her room. Her room was really tidy but you could still see some random toys lying around.
The girl closed the door to the room, the fake joyful look wiped off her face and said "So mother told you that I am quirkless, didn't she?"
Well, I can't just lie to her so I replied with a yes. It's obvious that she hid behind the wall to listen in on the conversation, I honestly don't blame her.
"Do you think that quirkless people are useless or meaningless?"
"No, I don't believe so. Sometimes when you lack something that the majority has, you will have a trait that they lack, whether that be an advantage or a disadvantage."
She looked curious and confused at the same time.
"What do you mean?"
"Hmm, well, it does depend on the person. I don't really know a lot of people, but I think I do know some myths and legends I can use to demonstrate."
"Let's use Achilles as an example. Do you know of him?"
The girl shaked her head and sat down on her bed. She gestured for me to sit on the orange bean bag placed near her bed. I complied then continued.
"Achilles was one of the greatest heroes from Greek mythology. He was powerful as he was the son of a mortal king, Peleus, and a nereid ,Thetis. His mother wanted to protect him and did a lot of actions to do that, one of them, perhaps the most important one is that she dipped him in the River Styx to grant him powers of invincibility. But because she held him by the heel when she dipped him in the River Styx, his heel became his vulnerable spot."
"So what happened to him after that?"
"Uh, there's a lot of lore and it would take me a long time to explain. So I will just tell you a very simplified version of this. He basically went off to the Trojan war to fight for the Greeks, he was a big help there, he eliminated a lot of danger as he was a very capable warrior with almost no vulnerability. Well, at the end he died due to a heel wound as a result of a poisoned arrow shot from Paris, his enemy's brother."
"All in all, this is just to prove that most of the times, when you have an advantage, you will also have a disadvantage. Even the strongest guy in the world has to have a weakness. So to answer your question, I believe that each person has to have their own use, so there's no way a quirkless person would be useless."
The girl just nodded, seemingly satisfied from my answer. Good to know that my weird obsession with legends and myths actually has some use in this day and time.
"If these heroes from myths and legends are so heroic, why aren't they mentioned that much?"
"Well, I suppose the current heroes outshine them in a way."
"Ok. They sound really awesome, you have to tell me more."
"Sure, sure. Maybe I will tell you some every time I visit or something."
"By the way, what's your name?"
I chuckled at how fast the topic changed.
"My name is (L/N) (Y/N). Yours?"
"Yasuda Nanako."
I talked and played around with her for some time and when I went into the bathroom, checked the pager and realised that Rider will not be coming due to how something really important came up and he needed to assist some people. Well, I decided to leave after a while of playing around. Before I left, I promised Yasuda to tell her more myths and legends next time, she was delighted about the mutual agreement.
When I went back home, I shovelled rice into my mouth, played some minecraft, studied and then went to sleep dreading the school day that's slowly arriving.
