Miraleigh was at the bookstore, she was bored and school didn't start for a little bit. She smiled as her eyes land on a book, she grabbed it and wished she was able to afford it. She placed it back on the shelf, she walked to school. Seeing signs of the dance all over the place, she saw Miguel waiting for her there and he smiled at her.
"Hey." She smiled, he smiled back and she furrowed her eyebrows seeing his hand.
"What happened to you?" She asked pointing to his hand, he looked at it and then watched her grab some things out of her locker.
"It's nothing, I was wondering if you're going to the dance?" He asked, she turned and looked at him confused.
"I don't go to the school events." She informed, he frowned and then closed her locker for the girl and walked at her side as they headed down the hall.
"Well, how about you come with me?" He asked and she smiled sadly and shook her head.
"Thank you, but I don't have any costume and I get hurt a lot at these events." He frowned again and rubbed Miraleigh's back gently.
"Well, we'll change that. Come on, I'm sure you'll have fun." She thought about it and sighed nodding.
"Okay." He fist bumped the air and smiled.
"Yes! You won't regret it." She giggled quietly and he chuckled with her.
"Come on, let's get to class. I'll come to pick you up, where do you live?" He asked, Miraleigh bit her lip nervously and told him. He nodded and smiled as they entered the classroom. For once, Miraleigh had a good day. Miguel is really nice and bright. Makes her day easier, she got ready for the dance dressing up as Wednesday Addams. She had done her hair in two plaits and was super glad she had things at home that she could use for the costume. Her head turned to the door, hearing a knock. I walked over to it and grabbed her hand bag and smiled seeing Miguel in a skeleton costume.
"Nice costume." She said, he chuckled and smiled.
"Same to you." He grinned, Miraleigh walked out with him and saw a messed up car.
"That's my neighbour." She nodded slowly and got in, for her it felt really awkward and uncomfortable but she got through the car ride and walked inside the school gym. She watched Miguel walk over to Demetri and Eli. Her eyes gazed around the room, seeing everyone dancing and having fun. Her lips turned into a sad smile and saw a girl standing alone. Miraleigh took a deep breath and walked over to her, she looked at Miraleigh and gave her a nervous smile.
"Your costume is really cool." She nervously said, Miraleigh smiled and looked at the girl's costume. She was dressed up as Claire from the Breakfast Club.
"I really like yours too." Miraleigh smiled .
"Thank you." She grinned.
"I'm Kaylee Stevens." Kaylee introduced, Miraleigh held out her hand and Kaylee shook it.
"I'm Miraleigh Johnson." She introduced and smiled.
"Do you have any friends?" Kaylee asked shyly, Miraleigh shook her head and Kaylee nodded slightly.
"Me too." Kaylee sadly said.
"Well, I'm here." Miraleigh shrugged her shoulders slightly and Kaylee smiled happily.
"I'd like that." She gave Miraleigh a toothy grin and chuckled happily. The two girls started to get to know each other, they got talking about reading, books they've both read and then Miraleigh looked to see Miguel walking out with his friends. She turned back to Kaylee, they started walking around the halls.
"Would you like to keep in contact?" She asked nervously, holding up her phone. Miraleigh felt heart shatter, she looked at Kaylee with sad eyes and stumbled over her words.
"Kaylee, I really wish I could. But I don't have a phone."
"That's alright, I hope to chat with you tomorrow?" Miraleigh nodded and grinned widely.
"Definitely." Miraleigh gently said and waved goodbye to her as she started walking away. Miraleigh walked inside the apartment and headed for her bedroom. She froze in her footsteps, some woman was lying on her bed. In anger, Miraleigh slammed the door shut and walked to the front door, grabbed her bag and walked out. Miraleigh walked down to the mini mart, entered and saw Pestor.
"Hey Pestor, am I able to stay here tonight?" she asked, it was very rare that she did it but he usually let her stay. He shook his head and smiled sadly at the girl.
"I'm sorry MJ, not today." She nodded, walked out and started heading for the theatre. She snuck into the back and grinned seeing her setup was still there. Miraleigh laid down on the cold ground and placed the thin blanket over her body. She usually had a horrible sleep when she slept here, but it gave her shelter which was all she needed.
"Hey, Isn't that the chick from a couple of weeks ago?" Miraleigh stayed still, staring at the wall and hoped whoever they were would go.
"Yeah it is, guess she's got it bad" Another voice said, she could feel their eyes piercing into her back. It made her highly uncomfortable.
"Think she'd rat on us?" She heard a smacking sound and one of them wince.
"You idiot! She's asleep, we'll be fine." Miraleigh closed her eyes, feeling a gush of air on her skin. She tried not to shiver as she felt something being placed on her skin and then something on her head.
"Dude! What are you doing?"
"She's covered in goosebumps, she's sleeping on the ground and you two probably screwed things up for her. The least we can do is give her something to keep her warm. " She felt whoever it was rub her arm gently.
"Look, let's just leave. We'll find some other place. We don't need her getting in more trouble." The person who was rubbing her arm stopped and the echoing footsteps rang in her ears. She slowly sat up, felt her head and realised she was wearing a beanie and then realised she had two jackets on lying on her. Miraleigh was highly confused, but smiled and laid back down. Feeling a lot warmer, the next morning she woke up and placed the two jackets on. Fixed the beanie up and then grabbed her bag, sneaked out of the theatre and headed for school
She was tired, sore but warm. She quickly ran up to Miguel and gasped seeing the bruise and bandaid on his face.
"What the hell happened?" She asked worriedly, he licked his lips and shook his head.
"I got into the fight last night, what happened to you? You look horrible." She gave a nervous grin and bit her lip.
"There was some drama at home." She partly lied.
"If you ever need any help come tell me." He reassured, She smiled sadly and nodded.
"Thanks." She said, he grinned and waved goodbye to her. She did the same, heading off to her locker and grabbed her things.
"Miraleigh." She turned around, smiling as she looked at Kaylee.
"Hey!" I cheered, Kaylee chuckled and they walked to class together. All day Miraleigh was curious to know why the guy gave her his beanie and jackets. Why they didn't do anything to her, she figured it was the group of boys from the theatre. She couldn't think of anyone else it could be.
