Miraleigh went to the furniture early in the morning, just to grab something she left at work the day before, she had her phone pressed against her shoulder and the side of her head holding her phone. She smiled as Robby's soothing voice spoke through the other side, the girl walked through the back door and into the staff room.
"So, whatcha leave behind this time?" Robby teased with a small smile, Miraleigh could feel the smile and rolled her eyes at the playful tone he had.
"I got something for Willow, I left it behind that's all. I'll grab breakfast on my way back, watcha feel like?"
"Suprise me, sweetheart."
"M'kay, I'll see you in a few." Miraleigh placed her phone in her pocket and went to her locker to grab the things she needed. The brunette girl placed the items in her bag, humming softly to herself as she went to leave, as she went to open the door she gasped at the searing burn that startled her. She grabbed her hand in pain, holding onto it and only then did she notice the smoke coming in from the gaps in the door frame. The girl screamed in fear as the glass shattered, letting more smoke into the room, the heat was rapidly rising and causing certain things to shatter.
The girl took her jacket off, using it to cover her face, she grabbed someone's jacket and used it to open the door but the action was a poor choice as the flickering hot flames jumped at her, and the girl was already starting to cough. She pushed the door shut, crumbled to the ground and crawled into a corner. The girl reached for a water bottle and soaked the jackets with water and placed them over her. She then raised her shirt over her mouth, the smoke filled the room quickly, her eyes itched and she was feeling dizzier by the second.
Miraleigh didn't know how long she was waiting, yet each time she went to call for help on her phone her vision went blurry and she couldn't make out the numbers on her phone or what she was doing. Miraleigh rested her head against the wall, she was sweating profusely, her hair stuck to her forehead and her clothes were smelling of smoke and sweat.
The girl laid down on the ground, curling into a ball and made sure the jackets were covering her as best as they could, there wasn't a moment when she wasn't coughing, she just hoped the sirens she thought she was hearing would come and save her. Though, she tested her luck, turned to the door and cleared her throat after a cough.
"Help me! Please! Help!" Her voice broke as she cried out for help, the brunette covered her mouth again, the smoke inhalation already having a drastic change on her body.
"There's someone in here!" Voices screamed, the girl closed her eyes, feeling too weak to focus on what she was seeing or what she was hearing. The door was thrown open, the girl flinched at the flickering flames that tried jumping into the room.
"Get a gurney!" Miraleigh groaned as she was thrown over the man's shoulders in a fireman's carry, the brunette limply held onto her belonging and focused on the ground as she was carried out of the fire She heard people barking out orders, she made a sound as her bag was grabbed by a paramedic and her phone was taken. Miraleigh closed her eyes as she was pushed into the ambulance, the brunette passed out along the journey to the hospital, not knowing what was happening.
Robby glanced at his phone, smiling as he saw Miraleigh's number pop up, he placed the phone to his ear and spoke.
"Hey, sweetheart, everything okay?"
"Is this Robby Keene?" Robby furrowed his eyebrows at the unknown voice, he sat up straighter and started thinking of the worse possible things.
"Yes, I'm Robby Keene, what's... what's going on?"
"I'm a nurse at the West Valley Hospital, your girlfriend was caught in a fire, she's fine, the doctor will explain when you arrive. Her room number will be 345 on the fourth floor." Robby thanked the nurse, he immediately rushed out of the apartment and drove down to the hospital, calling Johnny on the way over. He couldn't think straight, what the hell happened, how did she get caught in a fire? Robby physically couldn't relax, the burger joint across from the hospital was thriving and he thought about Johnny and the story Shannon told him.
"Robby!" Johnny shouted, running up to the boy, Robby looked stressed and clearly freaking out about what happened.
"Dad, I don't know what happened, she just went to work to grab something and then I get a call saying she's in a fire, I don't know what happened! I don't know if she's barely hanging on, I don't know if she's awake they haven't told me shit!"
"Robby, calm down, we'll go in and we'll ask for her. She's going to be okay, let's go in." Robby nodded, walked into the hospital and got to the elevator. They went to the nurse's station glanced at the board and went down to Miraleigh's room.
Robby let out a breath upon seeing her form, the girl had an oxygen mask covering her face, one of those heart monitors that sit on your finger on her hand and an iv needle in her arm. Robby pulled up a chair to the side of the bed, grabbed her hand and ran his thumb over her knuckles.
"Sweetheart, what happened?" He whispered, keeping his eyes on her form, there was no chance that he'd look away from the girl or leave her side. He wasn't there last time she needed him and it wouldn't happen again this time.
He didn't know if she was in pain, how much smoke did she breathe in? How did the fire start, was she the only one in there? Not too long after they arrived, Mike Barnes showed up with a doctor trailing behind him.
"Who are you?" Johnny questioned, Robby looked at the people in the room and looked at Mike Barnes who had a permanent horrified look on his face.
"We work at his store, that's where she was. So they... what happened? Was she the only one? How did the fire start?" Robby questioned, tears welling in his eyes, Johnny patted him on the shoulder and then went to talk to the older man while Robby sat with Miraleigh.
