Chapter 45

Caroline's POV
Klaus and I are still at the party and we had a lot of people come up to us but I had no idea who they are. Apparently they know who I am but that's only because I'm with Klaus but they are really nice people still.

"You think you're other siblings are around tonight?" I asked Klaus.

"Probably not, they are not as rich as me." Klaus says with his classic smirk.

"I was hoping you would show up." A familiar voice says approaching us. Me and Klaus turn to see it's Tyler and his girlfriend that I saw on tv the other night. She is really pretty and she looks just as young as me almost. "It's good seeing you again Caroline." Tyler says to me.

"Thanks for inviting us." I say with a fake smile. I don't like Tyler at all.

"Of course. A friend of Klaus is a friend of mine." Tyler says.

"I'm not your friend." Klaus corrects him rather angry. I place my hand onto Klaus's chest as a way to watch his temper. Klaus looks down at my hand and looks at me and sighs. "What I meant to say was... thank you for inviting us and tell the Mayor it is an honor for inviting my whole family." Klaus says in a calming voice. Much better.

"I'll definitely let him know." Tyler says and he has that smug smile again. He loves pissing Klaus off and he enjoys watching him loose control. I can tell.

"You must be Caroline. I'm Hayley." Tyler's girlfriend introduces and she offers her hand. She seems pretty nice.

"Nice to meet you." I say shaking her hand.

"So how long you and Klaus known each other?" She asked me. I kind of stiffen a little. I never thought anyone would ask me that. I turn and look at Klaus and he has a pretty uneasy expression on his face.

"Not long. We kind of met during some... business together. I sort of work for him." I admit to her. It's not a total lie. I don't need to spread any more details about my internship and being his assistant.

"Oh well congratulations to the both of you." She says with a smile. How did Tyler end up with a nice girl like her?

"Is any of your family members here? I only saw Rebekah." Tyler asked Klaus.

"I'm not sure but I'm sure they will come by later." Klaus says to him.

I hear the music getting louder and it seems like it's dancing time. A bunch a people goes towards it.

"It looks like the party has officially started." Tyler says and he begins to walk away with his girlfriend Hayley to where everyone is.

I look at Klaus and we begin to walk to where everyone is going now. The music is kind of soft so we are started to slow dance first. I start to feel Klaus's hand my back as he brings me close to him, forcing me to look deeply into his blue eyes.

"I don't think I ever told you that you look gorgeous in that dress tonight." Klaus says to me as we slow dance together.

"You don't look bad yourself." I say to him and I see his smirk again. "I'm happy that you kept your cool with Tyler." I say to him and Klaus rolls his eyes.

"If it's not my wife that makes me angry than it's him." He admits to me.

"I'm sorry that you are dealing with her to. You don't deserve this much stress. You're a good person Klaus." I say to him.

"Thank you Caroline. If only everyone can see that." He says.

"They will. It just takes time." I smile at him and he does the same.

"I let myself wonder what I would be like if I met you sooner. Maybe my life would been better off having you in it from the start." Klaus admits to me and It's really surprising to hear him say that.

"Well I'm here now." I say to him and now I'm the one that's smirking.

"May I have this dance?" I hear Tyler ask as I see his hand gesturing out to me. Klaus looks angry but I look around to see other people dancing with different partners now.

"It's just one dance." I say to Klaus and he nods and let's go of my hand. I look back at Tyler and I take his hand and he brings me closer to him now while his hand is on my back.

"You know I was shocked to see Klaus here. Usually when I invite him to things, he doesn't show." Tyler admits to me.

"That's funny that you say that." I say to him with a little attitude.

"I know you probably think the worse of me. Maybe because of Klaus but I'm not a bad guy." Tyler says to me.

"And yet you upset him." I point out to him.

"I've tried to work things out with him but he doesn't want to give me a chance. As long as I've known Klaus, he's hated me." Tyler explains to me. "And now I feel like you hate me." He says and I sigh.

"I don't hate you. I barley know you." I admit to Tyler.

"Well I don't hate you neither. I actually kind of like you. You're strong and I see that and you know how to keep Klaus in place." Tyler says to me.

"Klaus is cable of controlling himself. I don't normally tell him what do you. All I can do is be there for him and support him." I say to Tyler.

"I respect that." Tyler says and finally the music stops. I see Klaus coming up to me rather quickly.

"I would like my girlfriend back." Klaus says to Tyler.

"Of course. Thanks for the lovely dance Caroline." Tyler says and he lets go of his hand behind my back. I turn to Klaus and he looks at me with angry eyes.

"What did he say to you?" He asked me.

"Nothing bad. Nothing you don't need to worry about." I say to Klaus and I feel his hand tightly grabbing my arm.

"Caroline whatever lies he told you, don't listen to him." Klaus warns me.

"He didn't say anything bad Klaus. Not let go of me. You're hurting my arm." I say to him and he notices my pain and let's me go.

"I'm sorry love." Klaus says sincerely.

"You need to relax about Tyler. The truth is I don't think he's after you. You just need to get over your grudge over him." I point to him and I begin to walk back to the table with the champagne.
