ABOUT 2.25 YEARS AFTER "DEATH"
TOBIAS
Zeke's phone chirps and vibrates out connected desks. I glance over as he picks it up and pins his online to his ear with his shoulder. I try now to eavesdrop, but I can't help but hear him."Huh?" He asks. I look at him and furrow my eyebrows as to ask what was happening, but he doesn't see me. "You sure it's him?" Sure who is who?
Zeke glances at me, but quickly glances back to his computer, powering it off. "We'll be right there." We? Does he mean the two of us? He better tell me what's going on if he expects me to come with him.
Zeke walks over to my computer and powers it off. "I'll explain on the way, " he says, his voice sounding slightly nervous as he grabs me and drags me towards the door. He ignores the questioning of our exiting.
He starts to walk faster and I have to job to catch up with him. "They found the guy who took Tris." I want to freeze, but I resist my body's urge and jog faster than before.
"What? Who is he? Where is he? Where's everyone else?" I ramble? He shakes his head. "Lynn found him while patrolling the factionless. She didn't say who he is. He's in the compound and we don't know where the rest are." Zeke better start going faster before I drag him. He's lucky I don't know where I'm going.
My heart starts to pound. I'm about to face the man who killed Tris. He killed the love of my life- my best friend. It's going to take all my self-control not to murder him right then and there. He stole her from us. I need to steal something back. I need revenge.
We reach a room where everyone else stands outside. "What the hell is going on? And don't you dare tell me to calm down, " I spit. They all look fidgety and nervous. I look to Lynn. She has to have the most information of everyone.
"I was patrolling the factionless and I saw him. I ran and tackled him and brought him here. Max is trying to get him to talk now." I purse my lips and look down, beginning to pace the small area outside the room.
I wish there was a window or something so I could see what's going on. I want to see the rest in his eyes. I want to see the pain he's feeling. I want to see him hurt like we did. Like we do.
After almost ten minutes, the door opens to reveal Max. He closed the door behind him. We all form a half-circle in front of him. He shakes his head.
"He won't talk, " his deep voice admits. "Only shakes his head. He won't answer anything." My blood starts to boil as rage rises in my chest and I have to avoid doing something I'll regret.
"Make him say something!" Hana shouts. "Give him truth serum!" Max shakes his head. "We can't administer that, " he retorts quickly. "If you think you can get him to talk, be my guest." He walks off down the hallway the opposite way.
He can't just leave! He murdered Tris. He murdered a leader. He murdered a prodigy. An instructor. A sister. A daughter. A friend. An aunt. Bullshit!
"I'm going in there, " Hana says, her hand roughly yanking the doorknob. Zeke grabs her arm. "Don't hurt him. Don't threaten him. He's even less likely to talk." I see the disappointment in her posture as she closed the door behind her. Now, we wait.
"What do they even want him to say?" I ask them. They shrug. "Admit that he did it and say who he worked with, probably, " Marlene answers.
"We asked if he killed her, " Max says, appearing behind Zeke. He shook his head. "We asked which of his group killed her." Max shook his head again. "We asked who killed her." He shook his head once more.
"What if he really didn't?" Shauna asks. "He did. He was with the group who took her, " Uriah snaps at his sister-in-law. "What if he nobody in his group killed her?" She asks again. "Shauna, we know he did, " Zeke snaps. She slightly flinches.
