Tris
Tonight, Tobias said he really wanted to take me somewhere. I don't really know quite where because he refused to tell me. Its been a few weeks since the first date and we went on our second about a week and a half ago. I like him. I'm sure of that now.Since it's almost Christmas, I put on a part of jeans, a tight, long-sleeved shirt, and leather jacket. It's all black, of course. He's gonna be here any minute, so I slip on a pair of warm socks and combat boots. I always carry a knife with me, so I slip the one in my wait and into the shoe. I adjust it to make sure it won't stab me. I may be stupid, but I'm not that stupid.
There's a knock on the door and I hurry to get it. I wait a moment before opening so it doesn't seem like I was waiting for him. He stands there, smirking at me. I smile and raise my eyebrows. He steps back so I can step out. I turn and lock the door before we start walking.
"Are you gonna tell me where we're going?" I question. "Nah, " he replies, knowing he's making me anxious. "Close your eyes." I groan but do it anyway. He's probably laughing at me. "If I fall, it's your fault, " I say, wagging my finger at where I think he is. He grabs my arm. "I won't let you fall." I feel heat rush to my cheeks ad I resist the urge to look at him.
I hear the sounds of loud water and freeze. The chasm. He must feel me stop. "I trust you're not gonna kill me," I say, continuing to walk. He lets out a relieved breath and laughs. "Nope." He pops the P.
Water sprays against my ankles. Why are we so close? "Almost there." I smile and let him guide me wherever the final destination may be. The water only gets louder. Is he gonna kill me? No. He wouldn't.
He releases my arm. "Open." I look and beam. There's a rock by the chasm, decorated and closed off from where people can see. It's decorated with a blanket and food. I gasp and turn to him. He stares at me intently and smiles. "This is amazing." I wrap him in a hug and he takes my small hand in his large one.
We sit on the rock and he pulls out two burgers. I can't stop smiling as we look at the rushing water in comfortable silence. "You like it?" I nod quickly and lean back. "It's amazing. When did you find this place?" I ask.
He shrugs. "When I first got here. It was like my safe space." I smile. Tobias seems so intimidating and strong to others, but he's letting me see the other side of him. "And I didn't know about it for sixteen years, " I reply with a smile and shaking my head. He laughs.
"What's your favorite memory?" He asks, taking a bite of his burger. I shrug and try to think if something. "The first time I went zip lining with mom, dad, Zeke, and Uri." I smile at the memory. "It was really fun. The night we found out how many fears we had, " I add, but my smile saddens. I'll never get to zip line with dad again. I wipe my eyes quickly.
"What about you?" He shrugs. "We didn't do much fun stuff." That would suck. "But basically any time without Marcus, just my mom and I." He smiles longingly. "When I came here, you guys were like my family. Your mom was like my mom. You guys are my best friends." I smile. I'm glad we were like home to him. He didn't deserve what Marcus did.
"What did she look like?" He smiles and shakes his head. "Beautiful. Tall, same eyes, dark brown hair, kinda pale. She was amazing." I smile. "I don't even look related to Zeke and Uri, " I laugh, lightening the mood. "You really don't, " he says like he's making a realization.
"They're tall, have darker skin, brown eyes, brown hair. I'm short, dirty blond, blue eyes, more like my mom." He nods and looks deeper into my eyes. "More like grey-blue." "You really are observant," I say and he sticks his tongue out at me. I return it.
We finish eating and he pulls out two plates of cake. Both of us smile as he passes me a plate and fork. "Thanks." He nods and looks like he's trying not to smile, but failing miserably. I take a bite and let the warm chocolate melt on my tongue.
