Tris
We just finished fighting yesterday and no transfers have to be cut yet. All of them will be going through Uriah's fears today."Why can't they just go through yours?" Uriah questions Tobias. He just shakes his head. "Not a chance, " he adds. "Only a few people have seen my landscape." I shrug. "A lot have seen mine. Thanks to you, Eric isn't one of them," I say with a smile. "What's so bad about yours?" Uriah continues to interrogate him.
"That's not necessary for you to know," Tobias responds. "And you're not at all curious?" Uriah asks me. I shake my head and shrug. I already know them. He took me in his and I helped him practice. "You both know why they ain't going in mine, " I laugh.
I haven't told Tobias, but mine changed. He's in it twice. The last one now. It hurts seeing him do it to me. I know he would never do that. Do I? I mean, he is older and probably has expectations.
"Earth to Tris, " Uriah says, snapping in my face and breaking my trance. "Huh?" I ask. "You good?" Tobias asks, opening the doors to the landscape waiting room. "Yeah, " I reply, but I can tell he's not believing me.
"Today all of you will be going through my fear landscape because these two are too big of pansycakes to let you in theirs, " Uriah says. Tobias and I glare at him and he simply laughs. "Pansycakes?" Carson asks. "Said the pansycake, " I add, earning laughs from the borns.
"It's an old insult that only these two use, " Tobias explains. "Because it's so offensive, " Uriah defends. "Because everyone who has used it is dead, " Tobias says. I look down. Dad was the one who introduced us to the word. Uriah does the same and there is silence. "First is Allison, " Uriah calls and she follows us into the testing room.
As we enter the room, Tobias pulls me aside. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to, " he says, putting a gentle hand on the side of my arm and rubbing it up and down. "It's fine, " I reply and turn to enter the room. "No, it's not. What were you thinking about this morning?" I shake my head and start walking, but he grabs my arm and pulls me back. I yank my arm away and he looks hurt. "We can talk after dinner at my place, " I say and walks into the testing room.
I don't want to tell him anything yet, but the look on his face makes me sad. He seems so... .hurt. "You didn't do anything, I promise, "I whisper when he followed me in.
Right before dinner...
Mason, a born, jerks up from the metal chair. His breaths are fast and unsteady. No divergents. Thank God. This fear must be mutual because he seems really freaked out. "Come on, " I tell him and take his arm, walking him out.I get back and they've already started cleaning. "None. Good, " Tobias says flatly. "Do we have to deal with Eric for the testing?" I ask and they both shrug. "Let Shauna convince him not to and that she will, " Uriah jokes. "He would never agree to that. He's too stuck up, " Tobias chuckles.
"What were your test results?" Uriah asks Tobias, leaning against the chair. I don't expect him to even answer. "Dauntless and abnegation, " he answers, not looking up from the computer. "Why does she have three?" He asks, referring to me. Tobias shrugs. "I dunno. Nobody knows what causes us, but they don't like it, " he answers.
"At least you're not going to Amity. I would love to see you on peace serum," Tobias teases me as we walk to dinner. "Highly unlikely. I've never seen her even drunk in my life, " Uriah retorts. "Probably cause I was too busy shooing the other drunks out of our house, " I explain. "You would be a funny drunk." I roll my eyes.
"I would totally do something I regret, like jumping onto the table and singing, " I laugh. "You do sing well, " Uriah says and I clap my hand over his mouth. Tobias smirks at me. "Do you?" He asks with raised eyebrows. I shake my head. "Liar, " Uriah says. "I'm not even candor and I can tell, " he adds. "I will hear this singing of yours if it kills me, " Tobias says. "Damn you, Uriah." He smirks.
