"Today you all will face your biggest fears in a simulation, " Uriah begins as we pace in opposite directions.
"Most will have around 15, but some have less. I have six and Eight has, you guessed it, right, " I finish.
"I'll take this half. You take that half, " Uriah says, parting the crowd of transfers with his arm. I nod and take my side. At least he didn't make me take Eric. He probably considered it.
They all sit in a waiting type of room, anxiously tapping their feet.
"You will only take it once now, then physical training and back to this again, " I explain, but they all seem nervous.
"Maybe we'll have another prodigy, " I suggest. Not likely, but possible.
We break for lunch after finishing about half our groups. The people who took theirs have the rest of the day to do whatever they want. No point in keeping them in the room if they can be doing something else, right?
Stiff has been sitting with us lately and nobody fights it. He's quite funny, not abnegation like. It's evident he loves dauntless already. He fits in well. I hope he makes it.
He seems very nervous. We can all hear him tapping his foot under the table.
"Calm down. You'll do fine, " I assure him and he looks at me sarcastically.
"Coming from the prodigy with six fears." He cocks his eyebrows at me.
"Fair enough. You don't know. You could have fewer fears than I do." He laughs and rolls his eyes.
"The stiff has fewer fears than the prodigy, unlikely, " he retorts.
"You did transfer from abnegation to dauntless. If you tested that, you must be a good dauntless."
We completely zone in our own conversation, forgetting about the others at the table.
"Less fears my ass," he mumbles.
"Someone ain't a stiff anymore, " Zeke teases.
"The odds of me having less fears is like, the odds of you being stupid enough to jump off a building with no safety gear." Did he just call me smart? Or not stupid?
Tobias
Why would I say that? It's probably obvious I like her. Of all comparisons. I'm an idiot. Complete idiot."You never know," she answers simply and goes back to her food.
"You thought burgers were good, try this, " Shauna says and slides me a plate of triangular brown mush.
"What is this?"
The while table gasps. Uriah pretends to faint onto Marlene.
"It's cake. Eat it, " Tris says and they all stare at me intently as I take a bite.
It dissolves in my mouth and I smile. They all beam at me.
"Best food ever, " I say before stuffing another forkful into my mouth.
"Agreed, " they all say at the same time. It's amazing here. abnegation sucks.
I'm the only one left in the room for Tris to take. My body won't sit still. I have quickly across the room, picking at my nails. What if they can tell I'm divergent? What if they find out? Will they kill me? I finally found a place I liked and they might kill me. Just my luck.
"Stiff, " she calls and I violently turn to face her. "Calm down. This won't affect your rank. Just checking," she says. Checking for what? Divergents?! Oh God. I'm internally freaking the hell out.
