I was overwhelmed with the smell of beer as soon as I walked into the house on 7th street. It was overtaking the smell of the plain air freshener I knew was probably plugged into the wall at this man cave of a house. Jungkook was in front of me and leading the way, giving a head nod to lots of people that he has probably never seen before just like me.
"You made it!" Namjoon said and he already seemed drunk, his words coming out a little more slurred than they were earlier at school. We took a taxi here considering the incident earlier which we were trying to avoid happening again.
Namjoon turned around and grabbed two cups off of a bookshelf behind him that had probably 10 red solo cups. It seemed like party juice from the small waft I got and I instantly downed mine, scared Jungkook would take a sip. Namjoon looked at me a little shocked. "Thirsty?" I nodded and grabbed Jungkook's from his hand, taking a big sip of it before Jungkook could.
Jungkook just sort of laughed at me making a fool of myself so he didn't feel peer pressured to drink here, I knew he really wanted to but maybe puking earlier reminded him how back it could get.
"I just love this juice." I said as a joke and Namjoon laughed, nodding his head.
"I can tell." He turned around and grabbed two more cups to hand to us.
Jungkook held up his head in refusal. "M'good for the night."
"Are you sure?" Namjoon asked, handing me mine.
Jungkook knew I'd repeat what happened if he got another drink, so he openly declined. Telling Namjoon he was sure. Namjoon didn't think much of it, maybe not drinking was acceptable here. But as I looked around I could tell that was not the case, almost everyone here was drunk. They were falling against the walls, or talking way too loud, some people just openly chugging their drinks. I probably looked just like that a little bit ago.
"We have a shit ton of pizza's in the kitchen if you guys are hungry. There's liquor, too, if you are that thirsty." I laughed until he walked away from us and then I turned to Jungkook.
Jungkook picked up one of the cups I had chugged earlier and held it in his hand. "I'll just hold onto this so I don't get offered anything."
I was startled by a loud group of screams coming from the place Namjoon just headed, making me curious enough to walk in there. I knew Jungkook was right behind me because someone said, "hey JK!" And he returned a hey. Wow, his first day was a lot more productive than mine.
The kitchen was close and there was an unbelievable string of people surrounding a counter top, and all I could see was Namjoon's arm in the air chugging a can of beer. It was going down really smooth and once he put it down a shot was slid to him across the counter by some girl. "This is for joining the game and immediately losing."
He laughed and didn't refuse, picking it up and taking it quickly. I mentally gagged at all the alcohol he was intaking, could never be me.
I noticed Taehyung standing at the table when I tried to see everyone else who was making all this commotion, he was in-between two girls but only one I knew from my first class. She was very beautiful and thin and I could tell by how she kept leaning towards Taehyung when she laughed that he thought he was cute. He stayed with the same cold expression.
Even as Taehyung grabbed a new beer and set it in the middle of the counter he stayed stone cold, but then he looked at me. "Play."
"Play what?" I said, confused at what was even happening.
The girl from my class beside him was collecting playing cards and putting them in a neat pile, setting it beside the new cold beer that was just set out. "You're boyfriend, too." A scold on Taehyung's face while he glanced at Jungkook.
"He's not my boyfriend." I laughed, feeling just a little bit tipsy from the almost 3 cups of alcohol I chugged like 8 minutes ago. I knew it was going to hit me hard from the lack of liquor drinking I did at home, it was mostly champagne and wine with my family and it was only a few times a month.
"Alright, then that kid following you around." Taehyung rolled his eyes and took a big sip out of a glass cup he was holding, all I could see was ice and a clear thick liquid.
"I'll just play." I said, knowing if Jungkook had to do what Namjoon just did it would end awful.
Taehyung finally showed emotion, letting a huff of breath out and knocking his knuckles slightly on the counter. "Why are you talking for him? He's gonna play."
I turned to look at Jungkook who didn't seem worried, it was a 1 in like 12 chance that he would lose so he would most like be fine.
Jungkook stepped up to be at the table with me and the girl beside Taehyung stared at him hard, but I ignored it because a guy only a little taller than me started to talk. "You just pick up a card and put it under the tab on the beer, if it pops open you have to pick it up quickly and chug it. If you can't do it, you take a shot."
"I'm sure she knows how to play, Jimin." Taehyung said with his deep voice, it'd be scary if he wasn't so handsome.
I didn't actually know how to play, I normally would just sit at tables at parties in my last college because Yoongi didn't like me doing games or drinking heavily like his friend's and him did. After the accident, Jungkook just didn't go at all. I told everyone that I got it and sent a mental message to any higher power than Jungkook was not going to break the seal.
"Josie, you go first." Namjoon said before taking a sip of his own red solo cup.
I followed behind him by taking a sip of mine then picking up a king of hearts and slid it under the tab on the cheap beer. Jungkook went next, then two girls, Namjoon next. The girl I knew from class did one, Taehyung, the other girl, and more people until it was back to me. It didn't seem like it was going to bust but I guess with these you never know. I put one in, Jungkook following. No busted tab. The cycle continued.
It reached me, I picked up a card and could only pray that maybe it would bust here on me. I could see it started to get pushed to it's end and I slid my card under. Nothing. Jungkook was up and he picked up one of only a few cards left, putting it under the tab. All of a sudden, you could hear I fizz like a canned drink being opened. Everyone began to loudly cheer and one of the girls beside Jungkook slid it to her and began pulling the cards out so Jungkook could chug it.
"I think I opened it first." I said, looking down to the girl.
Taehyung butted in; "no, it was him. He has to chug it."
"No, I swear it was me." I looked to Jungkook now.
Jungkook gave me a look, a look you would give your mom when they are embarrassing you in public. I didn't want to back down but I knew now that I should. "He's a big boy, he can drink." Taehyung said almost smug.
I gave him glance. It's really brave of him to have this type of attitude when I have been drinking, I become unafraid and almost fearless. "Pass me one." I said in Namjoon's direction.
He looked confused but grabbed a beer, Jungkook had opened his. I was going to drink one with him at least, and so when he lifted the drink to his lips and began to chug, I did the same, just anticipating the horrible way this night was going to end for my best friend who just wanted to fit in.
