Four boys tumbled out of the Potter's car and onto the snow-covered lawn of the Potter house.

Laughter and smiles all around, except for one boy with unruly dark hair and round glasses.

James Potter was miserable. He figured that nothing could ever measure up the the utter misery he felt at Lily Evans being mad at him.

This morning he tried to find her on the train and when he finally did, Alice Longbottom, blocked the entry of their compartment and threatened to throw him with her shoe.

Small as she was, she really was feisty.

Lily Evans hated him and everything that he had worked so hard to build with her was flushed down the drain after some stupid idea to cure his boredom.

"Prongs, cheer up." Sirius slapped him on the back.

"Turn that frown upside down." Sirius turned the corners of James's mouth up into a terrifying smile.

"That's terrifying." Peter said.

"Come off it Peter." James retaliated "I'm heartbroken."

"Oh James, don't be so dramatic." Euphemia Potter said to her son, knowing how he tended to blow things out of proportion.

Between Sirius, James and Fleamont, Euphemia was living in a real life soap opera.

"Mum!" The boy exclaimed, "The love of my life hates me."

"She doesn't hate you James. She's angry, just give her some time to cool off."

With that Euphemia ushered the boys into her home and watched as they all fought over the small marshmallows she laid out on the table for their hot chocolate.

"How is August, lovie, is she coming home?"

"Don't know mum." James responded with a mouth full of marshmallows.

"Close your mouth boy!" Fleamont playfully hit the back of his son's head with the Daily Prophet "No one wants to see your dirty laundry."

Sirius smiled at the oldest Potter with a mouth full of marshmallows, earning him a slap too.

"You know, I think that you ought to introduce August to the boys." Fleamont suggested.

"She won't care for them."

"Nonsense! Oh Sirius she reminded me of you the whole time." Euphemia laughed. "And you should've seen how James adored her."

"Hung off her every word" Fleamont placed a quick peck on his wife's cheek.

"Why didn't we hear this side of the story?" Remus Lupin grinned at James Potter.

"Because my mum's seeing things."

Sirius launched himself on top of James, "Don't talk about Mia like that."

"Are they playing or fighting, Moony?" Peter asked confused.

"I'm defending my mother's integrity from my dimwit brother." Sirius pulled James's hair.

"James" Remus said, making his way over to the window.

Remus was utterly amazed by the elegant carriage and the magnificent horses that landed right next to the Potter home. Little gold flowers and swirls decorated the baby blue carriage.

"Holy shit" Sirius and James said collectively as they watched the white horse stomp its feet in the snow. The wind wisped his mane into the air like snow white flames. His muscles rippled from under his freshly groomed pelt and his powerful legs.

"Let's go down." Peter was already making his way out of the room, determined to see the magical beast up close. Remus was short on his heals, being the Care of Magical Creatures nerd that he was.

"Guys, guys! Stop" James shouted after the three boys. Down the landing and nearly falling face-first on the stairs.
"August is down there, stop!"

But James's hollering was for naught. The three boys were already standing 4 feet away staring up at the horse.

"Can I help you?" a voice like honey.

August Williams was frustratingly perfect. She stepped out into the light, the girl with the blond hair, a thousand shades of gold that made new mosaics each moment in the warm summer air. James guessed that from afar you could say her soft curls were the colour of rich cream, but up close it was a chorus of hues.

"Sirius Black" Sirius held out his calloused hand towards August. His big hand encircled her small, delicate one.

"I must warn you, I have a boyfriend. So you're not allowed to fall in love with me."

August laughed, a laugh that made James's heart beat faster, "That won't be a problem"

When James first met August he could only hear a tint of French in her accents but now after 3 months it was more prominent than he had ever heard it. Somehow it made her more attractive.

Fuck, not again.

It was if James's heart was torn in two. One part of him wanted to run and sweep the blonde up in his arms and the other reminded him of the red-head that he was so in love with. Who was currently ignoring him.

"This is Remus, my boyfriend, Peter and that's James. He always acts like an idiot."

"I know James." And just like that the smile fell from her face as her eyes met his.

Those coffee brown eyes that made him weak in the knees. Those pretty brown eyes that looked up at him when she was on her knees.

"Hullo." James greeted accompanied with an awkward wave.

"Hello James" she smiled sadly as if even his name brought her pain.

"My mum wants you to come in for tea."

"This is so awkward." August laughed. "Come here"

Her small arms wrapped around his neck and he buried his face in her hair.

Vanilla

"We'll come over as soon as I've endured my mother."

With one last smile she made her way back into the carriage, dragging the big blue trunk out.

"Here, I'll take it" James offered.

"No worries, it's charmed." August easily hoisted it up by the handles like it weighed nothing.

That was because it did weigh nothing.

"You can't expect me to struggle my way into my dormitory with such a bulky thing in a school like Beauxbâtons."

"You really are something else."

James smiled at the girl beside him, she could've sworn she saw something stir in his eyes.
