Mickey's had become some sort of sacred place for the two teenagers.
James admired the girl sitting in front of him as she slurped from the double thick vanilla milkshake.
Her rosebud lips and coffee brown eyes that soon became his favorite color.
He'd fallen for this beautiful girl, who was so much more than pretty. She was smart. She was funny. She was brave. From what he gathered, she had a past that wasn't all that lovely but here she was smiling at him like he was some art piece. She was a lionhearted girl.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked.
"Because you are the most beautiful thing I have ever known." He whispered hoarsely.
She smiled shyly at him and returned to eating the potato chips on her plate.
For the first time, it wasn't just a summer fling where they would go home and have sex, what was happening between them in this small diner, in this small town was something that would alter the threads that fate strung out for each of them.
Intertwining them in a complex thread of love and hurt. Of happiness and tears.
The thought made the hairs on James's arms stand up.

"I feel like I just got you and now you're leaving again." James said, kicking a small rock as they took the long way home. Desperate to soak up their last minutes together.
"It's only three months, and we can owl." August said "Besides, can't seven years go wherever they'd like on weekends."
"They can, granted it's realistic." James interlaced his fingers with hers and felt a warm feeling spread through his body. "France isn't very realistic"
August huffed, "Tell her you're relative is deathly ill and it would be the decent thing to offer your company on Saturdays." She said without missing a beat.
"I can't tell it you're joking or not." James barked out a laugh.
"I'm not, why would I be joking." She said in all seriousness.
James spun her into his arms, "You cruel woman."
She simply shrugged as they walked in silence for a while. "I suppose I could come to Hogwarts for weekends."
"No" James exclaimed before realizing that his tone was probably too urgent and alarmed. The last thing he wanted was an encounter between Lily and August.
"I mean, uh, I mean I'll tell McGonagall that I have a sick relative, besides I want to see France." He wiggled his eyebrows, "See if it's as romantic as it seems."
August smiled at him and rested her head on his shoulders.
When they finally reached the cul du sac in which their houses were, James hesitated to let her go. Tomorrow she'd be in another country and he'd still be here.
It seemed like August was thinking the exact same thing because she looked like she was having some internal battle with herself. She was biting her lip and her head was tilted too the side.
