“What was she wearing? Oh right, a waitress uniform.” Ava answered her own question. Liam had told her about Ivy and Zayn’s friendly interaction, probably blowing everything way out of proportion.
“Yeah, so she wasn’t dressed slutty. She charmed him, that’s all.” I said casually.
“That’s all? Tell me you don’t feel at least a tiny bit uncomfortable with the situation.” She pushed the topic. The thought of them together irritated me, but it wasn’t my place so I can’t do anything about it.
“Why are we still talking about that? Let’s talk about something else.” I said, indirectly answering her question. She shrugged and checked her phone.
“You know what? It’s been a while since the three of us hung out: just you, me, and Damian. And we should, senior year shouldn’t be the year we drift apart.” Ava spoke and I agreed.
“I can’t tonight. I have a date,” I smiled.
“You got a new boyfriend? At least you dumped that punk’s sorry ass.” She asked and I frowned, earning a confused look.
“No, the date is with Harry. That shows how out of the loop you and I are with each other.”
“So he finally decided to step up as a boyfriend and for-real date you.” She raised an eyebrow. Over the past month, Ava’s feelings for Harry had become unclear and anger, unlike her normal supportive attitude. I couldn’t blame her, though; I did almost break up with him for his absence.
“There is something I wanted to talk to you about, but don’t hate Harry.” I fidgeted with my fingers. The memory has been on my mind, but I haven’t talked to anyone about: not even Harry.
“I already don’t like where there is going.”
“So on Monday, I ran into Harry after school and he tried to talk to me but I wouldn’t hear it.”
“Atta girl,” She laughed and I frowned once again. She has to get over her hostility with Harry. This story about him is just going to push her farther away. I can’t stop now, though. She is my best friend and gets to know everything. Almost everything.
“Later on, I passed by him and a group of friends and he ignored me, acting indifferent of my presence. Then, one of his douche friends, Niall I think was his name, wolf-whistled at me. And he still didn’t do anything. Just pretended that I was a random girl,” I explained and watched Ava’s face go through many phases of expressions, most of them annoyed.
“So you wanted him to get jealous?” The way she put it made me sound like I was some crazy, twisted leech of a girlfriend.
“No I wanted him to fight for me. Even if it was telling that Niall guy off for being disrespectful towards me. When you and Louis fight, do you walk away?” I asked, hoping to use her seemingly perfect relationship to bash mine.
“Pretty much all the time, yeah.” She laughed awkwardly, as if she just noticed that. “But what do we have to do with this?”
“Does he chase after you? Make you stay, so that you can fight it out and then make up?”
“Yes, actually he does. So?” She responded, still not getting the point. I smiled for her, she was happy with her loving boyfriend.
“When I walked away from him, he didn’t come after me. Then he seemed perfectly content around all his friends like we never fought. And then his friend did that to me, and he did nothing.” I explained and Ava finally gave me a look of understanding. And sympathy. “Maybe I am blowing this way out of proportion. I must be overthinking this.”
