Valentine’s Day. It never made sense to me. St. Valentine was a martyr. Why did we celebrate his death anniversary as a day for love? I guess, when you’re single, it doesn’t make sense. But when you’re in love, you get excited for it. At least, I did.

“So what are you doing with Harry today?” Ava asked, as we took our seats in our usual cafeteria table.

“I don’t know. I know he was really excited for tonight so I am excited, too.” I replied, opening the cup of fruity yogurt and sprinkling the packet of granola in it.

“Well, Louis is taking me on a road trip to his cabin upstate. I have a feeling tonight’s going to be great,” Ava winked at me, a bright smile flashing on her face.

“What?! Really? Are you nervous?” I instinctively spouted out questions to her. Hey, it’s not my fault, I just found out Ava’s planning on swiping her v-card tonight.

“Hell yes, I’m ready. I really love him, Lace. It feels like the right thing, we have been together for a while.” She blabbed on, but I stopped her.

“Whoa, calm down there Bessie. I wasn’t telling you not to, I just don’t want you to feel forced with the time you’ve taken. It’s okay to take things slow.” I said, giving her a genuinely caring look.

“Hey, what were you guys talking about?” Damian interrupted our moment, by slamming his foam lunch tray on the table, scaring both of us.

“Nothing!” Ava chirped, before I could fill him in. I knew she didn’t want him to know, which was probably for the best. He would’ve convinced her against it, scaring her with STD’s or AIDS or something.

“Ugh, you’re talking about your lame dates for tonight, aren’t you? I miss when you guys were single! We were like a single pringle triangle!” Damian groaned, taking a huge chomp from his cheeseburger.

“That doesn’t even make sense, Damian.” I laughed and Damian stuck his cheesy tongue out, earning disgusted noises from me and Ava.

Once he had finished chewing, Damian continued. “What am I supposed to do, tonight? Other than watch a Nicholas Spark’s movie, because that’s our thing.”

“Get a hot date. It should be easy for you,” Ava suggested.

“You really think it will be easy for me to get a girl?” Damian asked, with sarcastic hope, for we all knew the answer to that question was a yes.

“Oh shut up, Damian. We don’t want you to get a bigger head than you already have now. Your body won’t be able to support it and it will fall off.” Ava sneered, rolling her eyes at him.

“Aw Ave, you think I’m sexy! You want a hot piece of me, don’t you? I’m sorry but you’re stuck with Louis, your chance is gone.” Damian continued to tease her and she threw a grape at his cheek.

“I’m not stuck with anyone. I’m just lucky to be in love with Louis,” Ava claimed, proudly.

“You-you’re in love with him?” Damian stuttered in surprise and Ava nodded smugly. “Well, okay then. What about you, Lace?”

“Harry probably has something planned. I know he likes these types of lovey-dovey holidays.” I smiled, trying to imagine the romantic night we’re going to have.

“And Zayn?” Ava brought up and I caught a lump in my throat. It was food that I couldn’t swallow in shock that she mentioned him.

Our conversations were becoming few; he told me he was busy with all the Malcolm shit. And when he came to Rusty’s, it was to pick up Ivy on her break, forcing a slight smile on his pink lips and giving me a small wave. Even Liam noticed our distance, becoming angry for he thought it was just because of Ivy, and his jealousy was obvious. But it wasn’t about Ivy, it was about us. Zayn and me. And that night after Zayn’s first date with Ivy. I knew things were escalating between him and Ivy, but this time I really didn’t want to know.
