Mikutori didn't even bother putting her hearing aids back in for the rest of the night, since after taking a bath, everyone just got dressed into pajamas and settled down to sleep. Mikutori had chosen a pair of black shorts and a cropped Avian Brothers shirt she had cut several years ago.

All the girls had to share one room, sleeping mats and pillows and blankets spread out across the floor. Mikutori took one as far into the corner of the room as possible, sitting down on her mat with heavy apprehension. The girls were all chatting as they completed their nightly routines, and it wasn't long until they were all passed out across the room.

Mikutori, on the other hand, stared at the wall she was facing, clutching her blanket tightly in her hands. She was so nervous to fall asleep, knowing if she did, a nightmare was sure to come, and she definitely did not want to embarrass herself in that way with six other girls occupying the same space.

Somewhere in the night, Mikutori did eventually fall asleep, when the moon was high and the sky an inky black, riddled with stars uninterrupted with light pollution from the city.

Daddy!

Crashes of thunder rippled across the sky, rain pounding on the windows of the car that was flipped on its side, so loud it seemed as though bullets were hitting the glass over and over.

Through the crashes of lightning Mikutori could see only blood and destruction, her father covered in it.

Mikutori! Don't look, baby.

The rain, the thunder. The thunder was so loud. Her ears were bleeding. The mix of the yelling, the screaming, the thunder, it was too much for her young ears.

Miku. Mikutori, listen to me.

All she could feel was the immense pain scaling her body as the world silenced.

All she wanted to do was to forget.

Mikutori woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily into the silent room. She sat up abruptly, hands going up to her head, fingers threading between her limp feathers. She looked around, eyes slowing adjusting to the dark, seeing all of the other girls still fast asleep. She let out a long breath, calming her racing heart as she realized no one was awoken from her dreams. At least that was what she thought.

Mikutori tiptoed out of the room, leaving the building altogether to get some fresh morning air. The sky was still relatively dark, the sun not having yet breached the horizon. Mikutori turned back to the building, pulling off a feather, pulling herself up and onto the roof with it, hand clamping tightly to it as it lifted her entire body.

Mikutori wasn't prepared to see someone on the roof, and almost let go of the stiff feather as she saw them. Stepping onto the roof, Mikutori realized the person was only Todoroki, who's usually calm face appeared surprised as she arrived. He was not expecting anyone to come up there either.

Mikutori wordlessly sat next to the boy, her right side facing him in case they were to talk.

"Couldn't sleep?" His voice was rough from sleep and lack of use, the huskiness striking something deep in Mikutori as she turned to look at him. With a simple shake of the head, Mikutori turned back to look over the forest past the open clearing in front of them.

"Sleeping just takes me from one hell to a different one," Mikutori stated, hands clasped over her bent knees. She realized she was in only a pair of shorts and a cropped top, but chose to ignore it in the early morning darkness. She could barely see Todoroki nod his head in agreement from the corner of her eye.
