TW: Some vague statements about an accident/trauma, including the italics in the very beginning. Nothing too crazy.
Pain. Down her entire back.
She could hear screaming, it sounded masculine and extremely pained.
She couldn't think, the roll of thunder surrounding her ears was too much to handle. First it was too much noise, then suddenly none at all.
All she could feel was the immense pain scaling her body as the world silenced.
Mikutori inhaled sharply, sky blue eyes snapping open. She blinked, seeing the rays of sunlight poking through her curtains onto her bed. She was laying on her stomach, hands shoved under her pillow as she slept. Her bed was vibrating slightly from the alarm clock.
She stretched out a bit before sitting back onto her knees, ruffling the gray feathers on her head without even touching them. She glanced over at her alarm clock, noticing that it was a bit later than she had planned on getting up for her first day. She must have forgotten to switch the alarm time. She blew a few feathers from her eyes in slight irritation, letting out a small yawn.
Scrambling from her small twin-sized bed, Mikutori Kumosora stumbled around a bit, pulling on her new school uniform. She glanced distastefully at the short green pleated skirt she was required to wear, slipping on her tall black socks and light gray, high-top converse. At least she could get away with her own shoes.
Deftly slipping her arms through their designated sleeves, she buttoned up her shirt before again grimacing at the red tie she was going to have to wear. Knowing she probably wouldn't get away with not wearing it, she slipped it around her neck before tying it up, a small gold detail finishing the knot. Over that, she slipped on the light gray suit jacket that finished her uniform. Leaving the jacket unbuttoned, Mikutori ruffled her feather-hair again, adjusting the jacket around her arms.
Leaving her bedroom, Mikutori grabbed her favorite silver aviator sunglasses off of a small white peg board (which held around ten pairs of sunglasses), a small black case, and a light gray messenger backpack before fluttering down the hall, half running and half flying to the large kitchen, her feet moving quickly but surprisingly silently past the small living room to the kitchen. She shoved the black case into her bag before placing her sunglasses on top of her head.
"Miku! You're going to be late!" Sakura, Mikutori's mother, teasingly scolded before tossing her an apple for an impromptu breakfast. Mikutori easily caught the apple, saying nothing before walking past her mother towards the front door. Sakura frowned slightly; she always tried getting closer to her daughter, but Mikutori never gave an inch to allow it to happen.
"Good morning, mom," Mikutori greeted, barely glancing at her, who was drinking some coffee before heading to work that morning. She was already dressed in her usual smart clothing, waiting to get to the hospital to change into her surgical scrubs.
"Good morning, little bird. You should probably go, or you'll be late," she teased before taking a sip of coffee. Mikutori stepped away, rolling her eyes before heading towards the door, mumbling something about her calling her 'little bird'. Stepping outside, Mikutori made her way down the apartment stairs, setting off on foot to her new high school, sunglasses pulled down over her blue eyes, a dusting of freckles spread across her nose and cheeks.
She let out a sigh of relief, loving the way the fresh air ruffled her feathers. Similar to what her father's hair was like, Mikutori's 'hair' was a premature-gray, the long feathers pushed over to the right side of her head, the majority of the left side cut in a short buzz.
