I Fear That Everyone Will Now Know

Mikutori tried getting ready like she normally did the next morning, finishing her uniform with her usual sunglasses, propped on top of her head, pulling out her slightly-too-small black hearing aids from the case they stayed in. There was a spike of static as she turned them on, her brain struggling to switch gears so suddenly. Sakura was already gone to the hospital that morning, so Mikutori didn't have to experience her sad and pitying stare as she left the apartment for school.

Taking a deep breath, Mikutori steeled herself as she made her way through the halls towards her classroom, the buzzed left side of her hair showing off her hearing aids clearly. The right side was a bit more covered, but the hearing aid could still be seen through the mass of fluffy gray feathers.

While she did get stares in the hallway, it was from no one Mikutori actually knew, so she promptly ignored them, coming to a stop in front of the giant door of class 1-A. Taking another deep breath, Mikutori opened the door, making her way back to her desk like she did every other day.

Todoroki was already in his seat, and glanced over at Mikutori as she sat down. He looked away after a second, before his eyes widened significantly and snapped back to Mikutori's profile, taking in the small black devices curled around her ears.

Midoriya was standing near to Mikutori's right side, talking with Iida and Uraraka. The rest of her classmates were strewn about, talking with one another. It wasn't until Kaminari turned around from his seat two in front of Mikutori's did attention be brought to her.

"Kumosora... what are those things in your ears?" The blond asked confusedly, pointing to his own ears. "Are those headphones?" The entire class looked over, mostly silencing as they took in the appearance of Mikutori's ears.

Mikutori tensed before deflating slightly, letting out a breath. Better now than later, so she took in a breath and looked up at her classmates, leaning back in her chair to seem more nonchalant about the entire thing.

"I have severe hearing loss. I was practically threatened into wearing my hearing aids by principal Nezu and Aizawa, so here I am. Wearing them," she shrugged, the only ones not surprised being the ones that already knew; that being Todoroki, Midoriya and Iida. Multiple classmates opening their mouths to respond only to be cut off by the entrance of Aizawa, someone Mikutori hardly ever noticed entering at the same time as everyone else. It was weird to notice his grumpy presence so suddenly.

Aizawa entered the classroom in his usual grumbly way, only pausing for a moment as his eyes landed on Mikutori before resuming his talk to the class.

What Mikutori wasn't expecting was the crowd of classmates around her desk as their first break of the day came along, multiple students talking at once around her. Mikutori's eyes flickered from face to face, questions being thrown around in the air between them.

Mikutori silenced them all with the raise of a hand, saying, "Just because I'm wearing these doesn't mean I can suddenly understand what all of you are saying. No, you can't ask questions, I won't answer any of them." She knew they would want to know things, but wasn't the kind of person to want to share them.

"At least, Kumosora, switch seats with me. I can hear fine, I could sit in the back instead," Ojiro offered, Shoji and Kirishima doing the same. Mikutori narrowed her eyes and scoffed, standing up to leave the classroom.

"Absolutely not. I don't need to sit in the front, so all of you can just stop with the pity and the looks and mind your own damn business," she growled, going towards the door to get a drink or something from a hallway vending machine.

She paused on her way, turning back and walking right up to Todoroki's desk, waiting in silence until the boy looked up at her.

"Do you want a drink?" She asked, the question practically being ground out.
