Is was that next evening, after they had finished a day of office-like training, that the call to action came through. Since Kukotori wanted Mikutori to help him run the agency, he made sure to give her some introductory information into paperwork and the overall role he had running the place.
It was already stressing Mikutori out, so she was grateful for the call to Hosu City. The secretary informed them that some strange, strong bird creatures were wreaking havoc on the city. That made Mikutori's eyebrows raise.
"Nomu," she whispered, before practically sprinting to the room she was staying in, pulling on her hero costume hastily. She adjusted how her tight, cropped top lay on her sternum, clipping her sky blue utility belt to her waist.
Brushing her feathers to the side, fully revealing her buzz-cut, Mikutori strung her goggles onto the top of her head, rushing from the room to meet with her uncle. They got to the roof in silence, taking off from there. It would be much faster than taking a train or even a personal car, even if Mikutori was okay with taking it in the first place.
Mikutori was losing a lot of feathers over her internship so far, and the first day's feathers hadn't even come back in yet. Huffing out a breath, Mikutori plucked two off to wrap themselves around her feet, and two more to grip in her hands, flying below her uncle.
Mikutori had her hands out in front of her, the feathers wrapping themselves around her gloved palms so she did not have to grip them as severely. The four feathers kept her horizontal, parallel to her uncle above her. Kukotori's wings were large and raven-black, barely flapping against the air, instead using it to coast along.
It did not take much time at all to arrive to the burning city, large columns of smoke billowing between the buildings.
"Uncle. The smoke," Mikutori said, and they both understood. For, they had the same internal anatomy. Sensitive lungs accompanied with nine airs sacs littered strategically throughout the abdomen. The smoke would affect them far more harshly than it would for normal people, and they didn't have any gear to combat against it at the time.
They touched down among the chaos, Kukotori immediately jumping into the action with the other pro-heroes after telling Mikutori to stay back and help any civilians get out of the area.
There were barely any people around, other than the Nomu and the heroes, but there was smoke and fire everywhere. Suddenly, a ping went off in Mikutori's pocket.
It was Midoriya, in the class's group chat. It was a location pin, for an alleyway only several blocks from where she currently was.
Mikutori looked back at her uncle one more time before letting out a huff and turning, starting to run towards the GPS location. She couldn't believe that she was doing this; leaving the supervision of her uncle and the other pro-heroes. She had a feeling that only trouble was ahead of her.
But she didn't care, not at that moment. She wanted to be seen as a hero, and was training to save people. Midoriya obviously was in trouble, and needed help, so Mikutori would go.
Running down the sidewalk, Mikutori had to dodge around fires and straggling civilians, but, nonetheless, she was quick and light on her feet, bounding around to avoid running into anyone. No one she passed seemed critically injured, and felt little guilt in leaving them to their own devices.
Mikutori was thoroughly surprised after turning a corner, coming across Todoroki running the same way.
"You saw his location, too, then?" The heterochromatic boy asked. Mikutori let out a confirmation-like noise, and they kept running in tandem; already forming a silent strategy together, like they had been working side by side for years. She was wondering what he was doing there, but chalked it up to his father being called to help like her own uncle.
