There was only one day in the entire year that Mikutori missed school, and that was today. Early June, the second to be exact, and all Mikutori could do was lay in bed, staring blankly at the wall.

She had been feeling more and more down as the days approached closer, and her mother didn't even bother asking if she was up for school this time, just silently emailing the school about her anticipated absence.

Today marked the third year from the accident, from the day everything had changed for the worse. She hated it, hated this day.

It also happened to be her birthday. She was sixteen this day, but couldn't even imagine celebrating it; not without her father. Her mother didn't get her a cake or gifts anymore, learning from experience how upset it made her daughter.

Mikutori just laid still in bed all day, barely getting up for the bathroom or a snack. She had no energy, no motivation that day. She knew she would feel better in the following days, but this day was always the hardest. She hated it.

She was just glad that the next day, when she showed back up to school, that no one asked her what had happened the day before to cause her lack of presence in class. Maybe they had finally realized Mikutori was not one to share her personal life, even with friends.

Another day, another bombardment into Mikutori's personal bubble. The class was relaxing before class started, still talking about their midterm grades. Mikutori was still leaning back in her seat, feet propped onto her desk.

Mikutori had gotten second in their class's midterms, but no one usually approached Mikutori for small-talk, so a few other students were talking to Yaoyorozu about the exam, along with the recommendation exam, instead, for the creation girl had gotten first in both. Mikutori wasn't even sure if anyone knew if she was second in the midterm's ranking.

Iida had joined the conversation, stating that he had gotten third in the class. The few of them were talking and wondering who had gotten second, as most of the class had already talked about these rankings. It was when they started throwing out names of possible second's did Mikutori speak up.

"I got second," Mikutori spoke up from her chair, the group snapping to look at her.

Luckily, Aizawa entered at that moment, and all of the students had to return to their seats. They proceeded with class as usual, and Aizawa ended with his usual tired drawl.

"All right, that's it for class today. There's only one week left before your final exams begin. I'm sure you're all studying constantly, right? Don't forget to keep training, the written exam is only one element. There's also the practical portion to worry about. Good luck," Aizawa finished, closing the door behind him.

Some of the lower-ranking classmates tried to swarm Mikutori, but she wouldn't allow it and growled them off. They knew it was a lost cause to try and get Mikutori to tutor them, so the few looking for help turned to Yaoyorozu instead. With Mikutori's classmates off her back, and Yaoyorozu seeming glad to help tutor them, Mikutori was free to go to lunch.
