A/N: Hi. Sorry I've been gone for so long! Tbh, time kind of got away from me there. I was finishing up college and graduating, and just recently started my new job! With that, I had to move and was without internet for basically 3 weeks, so I couldn't upload until now. This chapter wasn't going to be very exciting, but I actually really like how it turned out.
I saw we got to 100k reads, and I just wanted to say thank you so much! I started writing this 3 years ago now I think (wow) and I never expected to get to this point. I have so many fun ideas for seasons 4 and 5 and beyond, and hopefully I'll be able to update a bit more now that I no longer have homework. Hope you enjoy reading!
After a weird start of the semester including a journalist that could produce cameras from all over his body, Mikutori was again set on the path of returning to her work study. After having such an interesting time doing the internship earlier in the school year, Mikutori was keen to pick up where they left off and further her knowledge of the hero world. And who better to teach her than her uncle.
"We'll see, Miku," was her uncle's first drawn out answer after the feather-haired girl had called her uncle, her new hearing aids connected to her phone like headphones, so the call would go straight into her ears, instead of having to travel from the phone speaker. Mikutori was currently walking to class, her new gray converse shining in the morning sun.
"What do you mean, 'we'll see'?" She scoffed into the air, her phone hidden away in her bag, hands clenched at her sides.
"Well..." And her uncle was off, rambling away with that fast-paced voice he used when he would forget about Mikutori's deafness. Before she could even scold him over the phone, there were people around her. Her friends had caught up seemingly, Midoriya and Iida on her left, Todoroki and Uraraka on her right, all with mildly confused faces.
"Kumosora... Are you talking to yourself?" Midoriya asked timidly, trying his best to neither embarrass nor make fun of her if she was, as he was known to mumble to himself on a regular basis.
"What?" It took a second for her brain to process his question while her uncle was still rambling into her ears, before it clicked as to why they were so confused. "Oh. No. I'm on the phone with my uncle."
That still didn't seem to answer it, as her phone was still tucked away into her bag. Mikutori only sighed, before telling her uncle that she would be calling him again after school before hanging up, barely waiting to listen to his goodbye. After ending the call, Mikutori turned back to her group of friends.
"My hearing aids connect to my phone... like headphones," she explained, trying to keep the heat from her face as she had to explain another thing that made her different from everyone else. The realization dawned on each of their faces, and that was that, and soon enough the group was back to walking to class.
The conversation was easy, light bantering bouncing amongst them as they walked into the large building that was their school. Mikutori kept quiet for the most part, simply watching her friends talk and noting how happy their faces were. The only one that didn't talk much either was Todoroki, of course, for he spoke even less than Mikutori usually did. Either way, it was easy, the conversation. Nothing was expected of her, and she could just relax into it as they all entered their classroom, Mikutori immediately beelining it to her desk at the back of the room, collapsing into her blue chair before Aizawa came in and started the day.
Mikutori did end up being able to join her uncle in work study, his reluctance subsided after a lengthy conversation over the phone after the school day. It turned into routine after a few weeks, Mikutori leaving school and her classmates behind on some days to head out to the Avian Brothers Hero Agency, joining her uncle and sometimes a few of his sidekicks on patrols around the area.
