A/n: To give credit, I got the dandelion concept from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury:)

It started with looks. Silent judgments from across the room. His eyes were guns, and you were his target. You wanted so badly to ignore them, but you were a little sensitive. And you were in love with this man. Bucky Barnes. He was fairly new to the team when you met him. Day after day, you would try to hold a conversation with him, but he would reject you by either walking away or saying things like "Go away," or "Nope." It was hurtful. But you were determined to at least say a sentence to him! And that day is today!
You slowly walked down the stairs, and found the steel arm and the steel stare of Bucky. "Um- uh Bucky? I don't know what I have done to you. But when I tr-." He stopped you. "What are you doing here?" You stared at him in disbelief. "I am just trying to hold a conversation with you!" You said in defense. He rolled his eyes and replied "No one wants to talk to you Y/n. Just go and pick some flowers or something. Isn't that what shy and quiet girls do anyway?" You wanted to respond with something sassy, but you were at a loss for words. This was something you figured a child would do. Not a full grown man. Tears will your eyes, and you nodded. You backed away slowly, and turned around to walk to your room. Hearing Bucky's low chuckle, you let out a small sob, and continued walking.
Sam came out of the hallway where you were walking, and saw the tears coming down your face. "Hey, you ok there?" You looked up at him and nodded. As you were walking away, he gently grabbed your arm and said "Did Bucky do this?" You sniffled and gave a slight nod. He pulled you back down the hallway with a look of anger on his face. Walking straight up to Bucky, he said "Bucky what the hell did you say this time?" He looked at Sam and rolled his eyes. Prick. You thought. "She was being annoying. She's obsessed with me. Have you seen her look at me??." He yelled. You stepped in and said "What about all of the looks you gave me?? All of the glares and scowls. I did nothing but try to welcome you as the team welcomed me. I just wanted to be nice. But look where that got me."
Bucky rolled his eyes again, and you said "If you roll those eyes too much, they'll get stuck. Asshole." You walked away flipping him off. That felt good! You needed a good excuse to flip him off. But now that you did, you felt guilty. But you wouldn't let his behavior keep you from breaking. He deserved a little sass from "the quiet one" on the team. And that's what he got.
After a few hours of some self care that was well deserved, you heard a knock on your door. You quietly said "Come in!" while your head was still stuck in your book. Your door opened, and you looked up to see Bucky with a single dandelion. You sat your book down and looked up at him. "You know, when you rub a dandelion under your chin and yellow shows, it means you're in love?" You shook your head. "Well..." he said sitting down next to you on the couch. "...I have tried with multiple flowers, and my chin is always coming up yellow. Would you like to try little one?" You blushed at the nickname, and nodded. He handed you the flower, and you rubbed it under your chin. Bucky's face lit up and he said "Looks like you're in love! But with who? That's the question."
You looked down at your lap, and mumbled a quiet "You." You knew his superhearing picked that up, so you sighed and covered your face with your hands. Bucky took your hands in his metal one, and lifted your head towards his with his other. "Doll, I'm so sorry about what I said earlier. I didn't mean it. That is my way of saying that I like people." You looked up at him confused "But you don't do that to Nat, or Wanda. Or anyone else in this compound." He chuckled and replied "Because I like you so much more than them little one." You felt a small tug at your lips, and you let it grow. He leaned forward, as did you and gently let his lips touch yours. It was purely magical.
"Will you go on a proper date with me little one?" He whispered once you both pulled away. You nodded and kissed him once again. He pulled you into his chest, in a warm hug and you settled there with a content sigh. Finally, your enemy was your friend and you were happy about it.
