You smiled at Bucky's soft facial features as he slept peacefully. His nightmares were just starting to leave and he was able to actually sleep. Throughout the night, sure he woke up. But it was for other things. His 3:00 AM glass of water, bathroom, or even just his system telling him to wake up. Once he got back into bed, he would hold you close and whisper soft I love you's into your ear.
On the morning of his birthday, you wanted to do something special. Maybe breakfast in bed, or an early morning walk into central park. Deciding to keep it simple, you chose breakfast in bed. Maybe a good start to the day will lighten the load of the tasks that needed to be completed. After all, are very few people who want to talk about their feelings on their birthday. Bucky, especially. With seeing Dr. Raynor and all, you had hope that your plan would follow through perfectly to help him.
While you were running your fingers through his neatly cut hair, your alarm went off. The screen of your phone read '6:30 AM July 11, 2021.' You internally groaned and turned off the loud interruption. Bucky's eyes opened, and you quietly said with a smile, "It's just my alarm, Buck. You can go back to sleep." His eyes locked with yours, and you could tell that something was on his mind. Gently pressing your lips to his, you nuzzled your noses together. As you did every morning. "Did you have a good dream?" You asked him hopefully. His lips twitched, and he nodded! "What was it about?"
"Well, let me tell ya." He said with a smirk.
"It was another memory. This time, the soldier was nowhere to be seen or heard from. It was as if he didn't even exist. But that is not even the best part! My mind took me back to the very beginning. Free slurpee day. You know, the one at 7-11 on July 11th?"
"Mhm" you said with a nod.
"Ok great! This was two years ago. I remember it all as clear as day. I remember seeing the cutest girl there. With y/h/c hair tied in a bun on top of her head. In her hand was a blue-raspberry mixed with coco-cola flavored slurpee. Specifically with a green straw. It was one of those straws that had the annoying little spoon at the bottom. Use full, but really, really annoying. You know, slurpee's weren't even invented until the 1950′s! I was long gone before slurpee's became a thing. I was in there to grab a bag of chips and a drink, not even thinking twice about how many people there were in the store at the time. But when I saw that girl, I felt like I had a purpose. Oh gosh, her smile. Don't even get me started on her beautiful smile."
