Fishing in Misty Waters

A couple of days later

The pair made their way through Mt. Moon. After their encounter with Wally, they rested in that open area and finished their trek the following days, in between getting mild training in. Bonnie also left Eevee out of the Pokeball to enjoy the sights of the cave.

"I'm so glad we're out of that cave," Bonnie said taking big stretches and taking in the fresh air with Eevee doing the same "That was not the most comfortable cave I've been in"

"I thought Mt. Moon was interesting," Max said as Bonnie glared at him thinking he disagreed with her "Hey I got some moon stones I'm satisfied"

"Anyways," Bonnie said, "Cerulean City, this is where the Water-type gym is right?"

"Yep Misty!" Max said "I've been wanting to battle her for a while now"

"You know her?" Bonnie said

"Yeah she was one of Ash's first traveling friends we met a few times when I was traveling with Ash," Max said

"Oh I'm so looking forward to this" Bonnie said as Misty being a friend of Ash's made her more determined

"Are you sure you're ready?" Max said "You only have two Pokémon"

"And?" Bonnie said with a tilt of her head as Eevee mimicked her

"Well you don't have an advantage with Eevee and Pichu is good but since it's the second gym you might need three Pokémon," Max said which made Bonnie tilt her head in confusion "Usually gym battles are three Pokemon and more only the first is usually different"

"So I need to catch a new Pokémon," Bonnie said as it then occurred to her "Why didn't you say something when we were in the cave?!"

"You didn't ask," Max said as Bonnie glared at him "Look you can catch one outside of Mt. Moon"

"But we're almost in the city, where would I find one?"

"We could go fishing," Max said after thinking "I have a rod if we can find some water then we should find some water types"

"I thought you said I would need an advantage. Why would I get a water type?" Bonnie said

"Well you don't like using type advantages anyways so I just figured you would be all for it," Max said looking up at the sky to avoid eye contact

"... You want a water type don't you," Bonnie said finding the hidden reason "You've probably been wanting to get a water type for a while and since you're traveling with me you haven't found the time to go fishing"

"You can believe whatever you want," Max said walking off as Bonnie smirked knowing she was right "Let's find a pond or river or something"

River on Route 3 outside the city

"This should be good," Max said as they found a river on the outskirts of the city

"Someone's here already," Bonnie said pointing at the person who was already fishing

"Misty?!" Max said recognizing the redhead

Misty turned around at the sudden sound of her name and looked up and it took a second but she recognized the now older Max "Max?" Misty said

Max along with Bonnie made their way down and there Misty realized the lack of the height difference anymore

"You've grown," Misty said as she ruffled his head which got a chuckle out of Max which surprised Bonnie as he rarely laughs let alone smiles
